Santas Secret’s Halloween is back for year two so make sure you get your costumes ready for the competition and buckets ready for the sweets from businesses and locals in Bungendore this Saturday! 🎃 👻

Kim at Santa’s Secret did a fantastic job bringing the community together for a fun night last year and this year is going to be even better.

I’m sure some will think ‘oh that’s not an Australian tradition’ but when local kids, who have a lot to deal with these days, get to dress up, eat lollies and hang out with their friends I reckon it’s worth getting behind. See you there! 👻

Enjoy beautiful art by Bungendore's talented artists, meet the makers and soak up the village atmosphere. Bring your friends, bring a smile and come and be inspired! Sophie Baker will also be adding a few wonderful pieces.

Canberra has an abundance of native wildlife, including eight species of snakes. Here’s how you can stay snake safe this season. 👇

Snakes just want to be left alone, so if you do see a snake, stay calm. Give it space and let it go on its way.

Stick to clear paths and trails whenever possible. Avoid walking through long grass and vegetation.

Dress for the bush. Cover up with loose-fitting trousers and enclosed shoes, wearing dark clothing where possible to help a potential snake spot you first.

Stay alert. Snakes can be active at any time of the day – and even the night!

Don’t put your hand into hollow logs, rock crevices, or any place where you don’t have a clear view of a snake that may be hiding.

Add a snake bandage to your first aid kit and learn how to use it (see the link below for details).

Never try to handle or kill a snake. Snakes are protected by law, and are more likely to bite if provoked or threatened.

As the temperature rises, so does the likelihood of snake encounters for our pets. Stay one step ahead with our expert tips on snake safety.

🐍 If heading into the bush keep your dogs on lead and stay out of long grass.
🐍 Remove rubble, building materials etc. from your backyard where snakes can hide.
🐍 Invest in snake proof fencing for your property.
🐍 Remove food scraps from outside that may attract rats (and therefore snakes).
🐍 Keep your grass short.
🐍 If you suspect or know there is a snake, keep your pet away and if needed get in touch with a snake catcher to have it relocated. Do not try to move the snake yourself!

If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, take a deep breath and give your friendly and knowledgeable veterinary staff a call.

Santa's Secret: Meet the Witches of Bungendore.

Shhh, Santa has two very special locals on his list this year, and they're not quite what they seem... Their world is pure make-believe, but the hats are modelled on real people: ordinary folks with extraordinary lives.

Agatha Wattleby
Bungendore's own witch, who also happens to be a dragon (don't tell the neighbours). She keeps a lovely garden, plays the violin, and took home Best Sponge Cake at the 1937 Bungendore Show. She's clearly got fire in her baking, and a lovely garden to prove it.

Bluebell Finch
Agatha's sister, and another witch, but her garden couldn't be more different. It's full of living, happy creatures, and she plays the gramophone for her eye flowers. A whole butterfly colony has adopted her and lives on her hat.

Don't you just love it 🎄🎄
