Community Notice: Demolition of 24 Gibraltar Street
The property at 24 Gibraltar Street, Bungendore has now been demolished.

This demolition occurred despite an Interim Heritage Order (IHO) previously placed on the site to protect its heritage significance. The owner sought approval under a Complying Development Certificate (CDC), which is a form of fast-tracked approval for certain types of development that meet specific planning and building standards under State Environmental Planning Policy.

The use of a CDC in this case has raised concerns within the community, as it appears to have overridden heritage protections intended to safeguard significant buildings.

The loss of this property highlights the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect Bungendore’s remaining historic buildings.
