A wonderful week in Hong Kong at HRCONF2026 — the International Conference on Human Resilience: Navigating Life Changes & Challenges (27–30 May 2026).

VMHPAA was proud to be a partner and attend to strengthen relationships with counselling and wellbeing leaders across the Asia Pacific. Shane Warren (Chair) and Susan Sandy (Secretary) met with colleagues from a range of peak bodies and partner organisations — and we’re coming home with real momentum for what’s next.

With thanks to Hong Kong Shue Yan University and CIEBPR for hosting, and to co-organisers APRCC and APCPA, alongside a terrific group of partners across Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, India, China, the Philippines and beyond.

The shared feeling? Australia should host again. Lets think about what we can achieve in genuine collaboration with counselling bodies across our region. Watch this space.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

The Autumn Edition of the VMHPAA Newsletter is now online.

This issue brings together a thoughtful mix of advocacy, reflection, and professional insight — including a message from the Chair, National Standards updates, our Melbourne conference announcement, and articles on the manosphere, male clients in therapy, domestic violence, hypnotherapy, reflective supervision, ADHD, and AI in private practice.

It is a strong reminder that VMHPAA is not only advocating for the profession, but also helping build the conversations, learning, and pathways that support vocationally trained practitioners across Australia.

Have a read, share it with others, and keep the conversation going.

Australians are using digital mental health supports more than ever - phone, online, telehealth, apps and platforms.

A new Federal Parliament e-petition is calling for a clear national framework to govern digital mental health care with safety, quality, privacy, accountability and appropriate oversight kept front and centre.

If you support stronger safeguards (without losing access), please consider signing and sharing Petition EN9586 via the Australian Parliament House e-petitions site.

Tip: search “EN9586” on the APH e-petitions page, read the details, then sign if it aligns with your view. Petitions are a formal way to ask the House of Representatives to act.
