Bundaberg Tourism is continuing to strengthen its visitor services network, recognising that while most travellers plan their holidays online, it's local people who help create memorable experiences once they arrive.

Recent initiatives include a new visitor information desk at Hinkler Hall of Aviation, refreshed volunteer ambassador uniforms, destination passport stamps for Bundaberg, Childers and Gin Gin, and an updated Childers Heritage Walk Map.

WORKING HOLIDAY MAKERS REFORM - TOURISM WORKFORCE ADVOCACY

Bundaberg Tourism is supporting industry advocacy to address workforce shortages impacting tourism and hospitality businesses across the region.

A 2025 industry survey found that many local operators are struggling to attract and retain staff, particularly Working Holiday Makers, whose tourism and hospitality roles in Bundaberg do not currently count towards visa extension requirements.

We're encouraging operators to share their experiences with Queensland Tourism Industry Council - QTIC as part of ongoing advocacy efforts to help secure workforce solutions that support a stronger, more sustainable visitor economy.

Your staff are often the first point of contact for visitors, and their local knowledge and customer service can make a lasting impression.

Bundaberg Tourism is encouraging tourism operators, hospitality businesses, customer service teams, volunteers and front-line staff to take part in the Bundaberg Region Welcomes You In-person Workshop.

This free training program is designed to build confidence, strengthen customer service skills, and help participants share the stories, experiences and local knowledge that make our region special.

MEDIA COVERAGE - THAT HOLIDAY FEELING STARTS HERE FAMIL

The first media coverage resulting from the That Holiday Feeling Starts Here famil has now been published by Nine Travel. The feature, titled "Bundaberg is the town most people fly over to reach the reef. That's a mistake", showcases the Bundaberg Region as a destination worthy of its own holiday, highlighting the diverse experiences available both onshore and offshore.

A huge thank you to the operators who welcomed the visiting journalist and helped bring the Bundaberg Region to life. We also thank Tourism & Events Queensland for their partnership in delivering the famil and helping share our destination story with a national audience.

Last week, Bundaberg Tourism CEO, Duncan Littler, attended Queensland Tourism Industry Council - QTIC Tourism in the House event at Queensland Parliament, joining tourism leaders, industry operators and government representatives from across Queensland.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships, share the Bundaberg Region's tourism story, and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing regional destinations across the state. It was particularly pleasing to connect with Queensland Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Andrew Powell MP, and Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett MP, and to discuss the important role tourism plays in creating jobs, supporting local businesses and contributing to vibrant regional communities.

Events like Tourism in the House highlight the value of collaboration between industry, government and community. By working together, we can continue to grow a sustainable visitor economy that benefits both visitors and residents, while showcasing the unique experiences that make the Bundaberg Region and Southern Great Barrier Reef such a special place to visit. A sincere thank you to QTIC, CEO Natassia Wheeler, Chair Elsa Dalessio, and the QTIC team for hosting such a valuable event and creating opportunities for meaningful industry engagement.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and working alongside our partners to support a strong and thriving future for tourism in our region.

A big thank you to Bundaberg Today for capturing the recent Bundaberg Tourism Networking Event and sharing the story. It was a fantastic evening welcoming our new CEO, Duncan Littler, and connecting with industry colleagues from across the region 😊
