💚 UP & COMING REFEREE | JOSH BULBERT 💚

7 years in the game and only getting started 🔥🏉

Meet Josh Bulbert — a referee with big goals, plenty of experience already under his belt, and sights set on the next level 👀

🏉 Years refereeing: 7

📍 Favourite position: Second Row

💬 What inspired you to become a referee?
“My mum saw an advert for refereeing in Bundaberg and I thought… why not? Try something new.”

🔥 Favourite part of game day?
“The laughs and banter in the sheds and out on the field.”

🏃 Biggest challenge so far?
“Travelling away and competing against a stronger standard of refereeing.”

💡 Best lesson refereeing has taught you?
“Stay calm and be patient. Accept the problem, realise there’s only so much you can control, then move on.”

🏆 Proudest moment?
Refereeing his first Grand Final 👏

👀 Future goal?
“To referee Q Cup middle.”

🎵 Game day routine?
“15 minutes of music, get dressed, same warm up I’ve done for 7 years… then toss time.”

💚 Advice for anyone thinking about becoming a referee?
“Do it. Best decision ever.”

🏉 WEEKEND RECAP 🏉

Just like that, Round 8 is done and we’re now into the second half of the season.

As the competition begins to heat up, so too do the opportunities for our referees to continue developing, building confidence and refining their skills each week. Every game, every appointment and every challenge helps prepare our officials for the business end of the season.

A huge thank you to all of our referees who took the field across the Sugar Coast this weekend. Your dedication and commitment continue to play a vital role in ensuring rugby league can be enjoyed throughout our region. 💚

With plenty of football still to come, we’re looking forward to seeing what the remainder of the season has in store.
