Casey, having started off as an apprentice herself, is a definite advocate for encouraging more women into construction. She highlights that there are so many more opportunities and a bunch of different pathways available in careers that you may not have thought possible.

Those on the land have made friend, and sometimes foe, with the weather over generations. There is a familiarity with its patterns, a sense of what’s ahead and a hum in the air, without looking at a rainfall chart, a weather report or the TV news.

They know the seasons. They know the country. They know what happens when the rain comes late, when it stops early, and when one dry year runs into the next.

We would love for that knowledge to be shared.

Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett (RDAWBB), through our Regional Drought Resilience Planning (RDRP) Program, is forming two Reference Groups, one for the Mary and one for the Burnett.

We are inviting regional leaders, community members, primary producers, representatives from small and medium enterprises, First Nations representatives, and people working in the community and mental health sectors to become members.

If you have lived and worked in the region for many years with a strong connection to the community, we encourage you to put your name forward.

We are also interested in the people whose expertise comes from simply knowing the place and its people.

The Reference Group will provide local insight and practical advice to help shape the Regional Drought Resilience Plans. It will help identify what is happening on the ground, where the gaps and barriers are, and where local knowledge, existing networks and work already underway can be put to good use.

You will represent the interests of the region and its communities, rather than those of any particular organisation, business or council.
