BRITE Herb Farm and BRITE Training Centre
In 2012 BRITE successfully applied for a funding to create a Herb Farm within the BRITE Plants Nursery complex. LOCAL SOLUTIONS FUND
Being recipients in Round Two of the Local Solutions Fund, a federal government funded initiative, has enabled BRITE to establish a Herb Farm business and training venture within one year of first soil being turned in mid-2012. The venture has been established on 1.3 acres of land at the BRITE site in Broadmeadows, Victoria and provides the setting to enable delivery of work skills and vocational training in Horticulture to people in Hume. The project will facilitate the pathway from pre-accredited to accredited training and provide opportunities for participants to undertake Certificate 1 in Agri Foods Operations and Certificate 2 in Horticulture. As well as providing training and employment opportunities, the initiative provides hands on experience through the development of an urban herb farm in a supported learning environment. At the same time offering supported employment and training to people with a disability; the most obvious of these being physical and intellectual disabilities. BRITE HERB FARM
The official opening of the BRITE Herb Farm was on Friday the 22nd of November 2013. BRITE hosted a function in the BRITE Training Centre with Senator Mitch Fifeld officially opening the Herb Farm and Training Centre. The BRITE Herb Farm will grow a variety of potted, dried and freshculinary herbs such as Rosemary, Basil, Thyme and Sage. The goal of the BRITE Herb Farm is to build a sustainable social enterprise that will create training and employment opportunities within the community of Hume. As part of the future planning for the the Herb Farm, BRITE is heading into a new era of building and strengthening its partnerships with innovative businesses such as Outback Chef, enhancing procurement incentives with Local Government and supporting community groups. Additionally, BRITE plans to establish an outdoor kitchen at the Herb Farm for the delivery healthy living programs in an inviting outdoor setting, with the kitchen to be equipped with an outdoor Pizza Oven to make pizzas using BRITE Herbs fresh from the garden.

We recently received some fantastic customer feedback from Dayton Garden Services, and we couldn’t be prouder:

“I just want to say a big thanks to your team for the great service and excellent quality of your plants. The client and I were very happy and the job turned out great! A big shoutout to the two delivery drivers who were so proud of their product and being part of the organisation.”

Huge kudos to Marcus and Luke; we love seeing that pride and passion out on the job. Moments like this are what it’s all about!

Super proud of our Plants team and the energy they bring every day; keep up the awesome work!

Meet Jordan Rudd, one of our inspiring stories at cape solutions. Jordan recently took on the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships—and absolutely smashed it!

Over 4 days and 4 events, Jordan took home silver in the 800m (2:08!), placed 5th overall in the 400m (3rd in his classification), and
hit a 13-second personal best in the 1500m; against world record holders. Jordan also jumped into the 200m just for fun!

We’re so proud to support Jordan in balancing work and training, and we love seeing him chase his goals.

Congratulations to Jordan and his family.

What began as a brilliant idea from supported employee Andrew Donnelly at an ERC meeting quickly turned into a fun-filled fundraising event at cape East!

Supported employees joined in the excitement, making donations to decide which staff member would be drenched next — and it’s safe to say no one stayed dry for long.

There were plenty of laughs and a lot of bravery on display as staff took on icy buckets of water, all in support of the Big Freeze and the fight against MND.

A huge well done to everyone who participated, donated, and took the plunge! What an incredible way to come together for such an important cause. Great idea Andrew!

cape’s Farm in Vermont has wrapped up a fantastic summer season. Our farmers harvested a wide variety of fresh produce, from watermelons, zucchini and pumpkins to corn, tomatoes, herbs, and more.

As the weather cools, we’re getting ready for winter—preparing garden beds with nutrient-rich compost and mulch and gearing up for the season ahead (including chopping wood to keep warm).

Beyond the harvest, the farm is a welcoming space to learn new skills, connect with others and be part of something meaningful. Whether it’s gardening, woodwork or helping care for the land, there’s something for everyone.

Thank you to BreastScreen Victoria for delivering a screening information session tailored for people living with disability. It was fantastic to see employees actively engaging, asking questions and building their understanding of the importance of screening.

Accessible, easy-read flyers and resources were provided to all participants, and we now have additional copies available to share more broadly across our community.

Sessions like this help ensure everyone has access to important health information in a way that’s inclusive, supportive and empowering.

We are excited that our supported employees have the opportunity to work out in our community once a month at Bunnings Warehouse Australia. They play a huge role every step of the way.
From making products at cape East, to setting up the stall at Bunnings, Nunawading, serving customers and processing payments — they do it all!
They absolutely love the experience, and we love seeing them shine!

Big shout‑out to Kono, a recent recipient of our Employee of the Month honourable mention for living our value of Empowering.
Based at cape North, Kono works across both cape Solutions and cape Plants and is truly an absolute ray of sunshine.

We love Kono’s contagious attitude, strong teamwork, and the way he connects with everyone he works with. Kono brings positivity wherever he goes. Thank you for being such a fantastic cape Plants representative when out and about. Keep up the amazing work, Kono!

On Sunday 3rd May, our very own Erin Smith will be doing the 5km Angela Taylor walk. The Angela Taylor run/walk is held in memory of young Constable Angela Rose Taylor who died because of the Russell Street bombing in 1986. The Angela Taylor Memorial Run/Walk continues to be held in honour of Angela and all Victoria Police members who lost their lives serving and protecting our community.

Erin’s sister works for VicPol so this is a very special and personal event for her. Erin is very proud of her sister Hannah and work she does.

We'd love for our friends, family, colleagues and community to get behind Erin, whether it's cheering her on, sharing this post or making a donation. Every bit of support makes a real difference.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Anthony’s outstanding fundraising effort for the World’s Greatest Shave.
Anthony raised an impressive $1,754 for the Leukaemia Foundation, ranking #114 in Victoria, and smashing his original fundraising target three times as support continued to pour in.

Congratulations, Anthony! We are so proud of you.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, donated and cheered Anthony on throughout his fundraising journey.

With so much interest and momentum from cape solutions, this could very well become an annual event - watch this space!
