BRITE Herb Farm and BRITE Training Centre
In 2012 BRITE successfully applied for a funding to create a Herb Farm within the BRITE Plants Nursery complex. LOCAL SOLUTIONS FUND
Being recipients in Round Two of the Local Solutions Fund, a federal government funded initiative, has enabled BRITE to establish a Herb Farm business and training venture within one year of first soil being turned in mid-2012. The venture has been established on 1.3 acres of land at the BRITE site in Broadmeadows, Victoria and provides the setting to enable delivery of work skills and vocational training in Horticulture to people in Hume. The project will facilitate the pathway from pre-accredited to accredited training and provide opportunities for participants to undertake Certificate 1 in Agri Foods Operations and Certificate 2 in Horticulture. As well as providing training and employment opportunities, the initiative provides hands on experience through the development of an urban herb farm in a supported learning environment. At the same time offering supported employment and training to people with a disability; the most obvious of these being physical and intellectual disabilities. BRITE HERB FARM
The official opening of the BRITE Herb Farm was on Friday the 22nd of November 2013. BRITE hosted a function in the BRITE Training Centre with Senator Mitch Fifeld officially opening the Herb Farm and Training Centre. The BRITE Herb Farm will grow a variety of potted, dried and freshculinary herbs such as Rosemary, Basil, Thyme and Sage. The goal of the BRITE Herb Farm is to build a sustainable social enterprise that will create training and employment opportunities within the community of Hume. As part of the future planning for the the Herb Farm, BRITE is heading into a new era of building and strengthening its partnerships with innovative businesses such as Outback Chef, enhancing procurement incentives with Local Government and supporting community groups. Additionally, BRITE plans to establish an outdoor kitchen at the Herb Farm for the delivery healthy living programs in an inviting outdoor setting, with the kitchen to be equipped with an outdoor Pizza Oven to make pizzas using BRITE Herbs fresh from the garden.

After 40 years of dedication, it was time to say farewell to Ron Warren as he begins his next chapter: retirement.

Colleagues gathered for cake, hugs and camaraderie during morning break to celebrate his extraordinary journey. Ron joined Brite/cape at the age of 16 and spent his career working in Pak and the Warehouse, becoming a well-respected and valued team member.

Thank you, Ron, for the memories, friendships and 40 years of service. You leave behind a wonderful legacy, and we wish you all the very best for the future. You will be missed beyond words.

Our Employment East team recently enjoyed a Friday Fun Day lunch, coming together to share pizzas, soft drinks and a few laughs along the way.

At the heart of our Live, Learn, Work, Play framework, the Play pillar focuses on social and community participation, along with recreational activities and programs that help build friendships, connection and a sense of belonging in a supportive and inclusive environment.

It's great to see so many smiling faces!

We’re excited to share that our long-awaited greenhouse project is progressing well. The impressive structure pictured below includes both our new shade house and hot house, representing a significant investment in the future of our horticulture operations. The project includes two new growing structures designed to expand our capacity and support future growth.

Once completed, this HUGE addition will significantly increase our growing capacity, creating even more opportunities for learning, skill development and meaningful work.

We can’t wait to see the finished result and share the journey with you. Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues to take shape!

This year marks a remarkable milestone, with three supported employees, Deborah, Moira and Brenda celebrating 50 years of service, each having started their journey with Brite/cape in 1976.

Yesterday, our Chairman, Doug Mitchell, had the honour of presenting Deborah with her 50 Years of Service Award, recognising her extraordinary contribution and dedication over five decades.

As Deborah begins her well-earned retirement, we thank her for the incredible impact she has made and wish her all the very best for the future. Meanwhile, Moira and Brenda continue their journey with us at cape, and we are grateful for their ongoing commitment.

Their loyalty, dedication and service are truly extraordinary, and we are proud to celebrate this incredible achievement with them.

The cape solutions East team swapped workwear for pyjamas as part of National Pyjama Day to raise funds to empower children in foster care.

It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, from cosy robes and onesies to favourite PJ sets, all in support of a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.

A big thank you to Cass and the team for embracing the day and contributing to this important fundraiser. cape solutions employees have a remarkable way of turning fun events into meaningful support for charities and community causes!

At cape, off-site work isn’t just about lending a helping hand, it’s about building independence, strengthening connections, and creating meaningful experiences.

Our supported employees from Nunawading enjoyed their off-site work in Broadmeadows by making new friendships, building confidence, and having fun.

Working on different lines with different team members also gave everyone the opportunity to learn new skills, try something different, and feel part of a wider team.

It’s these moments, stepping into new spaces and feeling welcomed, that make such a positive impact.

We’re so proud of our team for embracing the opportunity and making the most of every moment! We're already looking forward to the next opportunity!
