This week is National Carers Week - did you know there are over 3 million people in Australia balancing unpaid care and support of their loved ones, along with their own lives? The RBWH Foundation knows how important it is to make Australia's carers visible by giving them a voice through our medical and health project grants.

For Bridget Noble, supporting her husband, John, while he recovered from a stroke in hospital showed her how important it was for those with lived experience to be heard. This need to speak up for her husband has inspired her involvement in several Foundation projects that improve care and outcomes for stroke survivors because, as Bridget puts it, "You can make a difference through your lived experience, you can make things happen."

Most people celebrate turning 30 by looking ahead.
For Elizabeth, it was also a chance to look back.
Back to the moments with her dad, Ivan.

Elizabeth lost her dad when she was just 10 years old. Twenty years later, as she prepared to celebrate her milestone birthday, she found a meaningful way to honour his memory.
And the reason behind a simple but powerful idea:
Five More Minutes.

Family, friends, colleagues and complete strangers rallied behind Elizabeth's vision, helping transform a personal milestone into a community-driven legacy.
Along the way, they stood beside her as she bravely shaved her head in honour of those facing cancer and in memory of her dad.

Together, they raised an incredible $9,200.
Not just in celebration of a birthday.
Not just in memory of Ivan.
But in support of Queenslanders and families facing their own cancer journey.
Every donation became part of a story about love, community and making every minute count.

Today, Elizabeth visited the RBWH Foundation team to celebrate the campaign's success and share her excitement for the decade ahead. After spending her 30th birthday creating something that will help others, it feels fitting that her next chapter begins with a legacy already underway.

To Elizabeth and everyone who supported Five More Minutes, thank you for proving that a birthday can be more than a celebration. It can become a legacy.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month starts today.

More than 20,000 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Over a lifetime, around 1 in 7 women and 1 in 600 men will be diagnosed.

Swipe through to learn more about breast cancer in Australia and why continued research matters.

One example is Detect-ER, a pilot study supported through an RBWH Foundation grant. The research is investigating a more accurate way to image invasive lobular breast cancer and could help clinicians make more informed treatment decisions.

This month recognises the strength and resilience of everyone impacted by breast cancer, and the family, friends and supporters who walk alongside them with care, support, and hope.

Blue September wraps up today.

Blue September looked different for everyone. Some pulled on their runners for the inaugural Blue Run 5km, some took on extraordinary fundraising challenges, and others shared personal experiences to encourage more blokes to put their health first.

There was the inaugural Blue Run 5km, David Batterham's journey from Adelaide to Brisbane in memory of his wife, Judi, Trevor Witika's efforts to encourage more blokes to get checked after his prostate cancer diagnosis, and Adam's story of becoming Australia's first dialysis patient to complete a marathon.

Every story was different, but each one reinforced the message: Blue September empowers people to take action, support men's health and create positive change that lasts beyond September.💙

Thank you to everyone who donated, fundraised, shared their story or backed someone they care about this September.
