Everyone belongs here🌈

At Y Queensland, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, valued and a true sense of belonging.

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our people and communities, while continuing our commitment to creating safe, inclusive and connected spaces for all.

We know that belonging can make a powerful difference. It's about feeling seen, respected and supported for who you are. Across our services and communities, we're committed to creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

At Y Schools Queensland Ipswich, we're proud to support young people to find their voice, build confidence and create positive change in their communities.

Claire, a student at Y Schools Queensland Ipswich and Youth Member for the Ipswich electorate in the Queensland Youth Parliament 2026 program, is a great example of what can happen when young people are empowered to step forward and lead.

When asked what inspired her to apply, Claire shared:

"I wanted to learn more about how parliament works and how decisions are made. I was also really interested in having a stronger voice within my community."

Reflecting on her journey at Y Schools Queensland, Claire said:

"I have received a lot of support along the way during my Y journey and it has meant a lot, as they have given me a voice and the confidence to advocate for my school community."

Claire has already used that confidence to contribute to student voice initiatives and is looking forward to continuing to represent and advocate for young people through the Queensland Youth Parliament program.

Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact that encouragement, opportunity and support can have in helping young people realise their potential.

We're excited to follow Claire's journey and see all that she achieves. 👏

This week marks National Reconciliation Week (NRW), held annually from 27 May to 3 June. It is an important opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

This year’s theme, All In, is a powerful reminder that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility. It calls on all Australians to step forward together through listening, learning and taking meaningful action to create lasting change.

At Y Queensland, we acknowledge and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as First Nations Peoples and the world’s oldest living cultures and communities.

We are committed to understanding and valuing First Nations cultures, rights and experiences, while continuing to create opportunities for participation, belonging and inclusion across our organisation and the communities we serve.

Our vision for reconciliation is grounded in building relationships based on understanding, respect and connection. During National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on the role we all play in honouring First Nations voices and continuing to work together towards healthy, connected and thriving communities.

National Volunteer Week | Garth’s Journey at the Y 🌱

Garth’s volunteering journey at Y Schools Queensland has been shaped by curiosity, connection and sharing skills with the next generation.

Through supporting gardening and art therapy programs, Garth works alongside students on projects that create opportunities to learn, explore and build something meaningful together. What began with conversations and curiosity has grown into projects with the potential to leave a lasting impact beyond the classroom.

For Garth, one of the most rewarding parts of volunteering is that no two weeks are the same.

“Students always have a way of making you check yourself.”

He values the chance to share knowledge while learning from young people and the school community in return — a reminder that volunteering is a two-way experience.

Across Y Queensland, volunteering creates opportunities to make a real difference in services such as Housing, Community Centres, Op Shops, Youth Services, and Breakfast Program — all while supporting people to grow skills, confidence and future career pathways within the Y.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate Garth and every volunteer who helps make a difference across our communities. 💛

National Volunteer Week | Emma-Jayne’s Journey at the Y 🌟

Emma-Jayne’s journey at Y Queensland began in 2023 when she started volunteering at our YMCA Op Shop at Mango Hill. After spending time away from work, volunteering became an opportunity to reconnect, build confidence and give back to the community.

What started as nine months of volunteering soon opened the door to a Store Supervisor opportunity at our Strathpine Op Shop — a role Emma-Jayne successfully stepped into and continues to grow in today.

Through her journey, Emma-Jayne has seen first-hand how volunteering can create opportunities not only for herself, but for others too. From supporting volunteers returning to work to helping young people gain confidence and real-world experience, she has experienced the impact community connection can create.

Across Y Queensland, volunteering creates opportunities to make a real difference in services such as Housing, Community Centres, Op Shops, Youth Services, and Breakfast Program — all while supporting people to grow skills, confidence and future career pathways within the Y.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate Emma-Jayne and every volunteer who helps make a difference across our communities. 💛
