Project Yumi is an Australian registered charity that builds effective partnerships with local communities in Papua New Guinea, to enhance the quality of education and health care. Project Yumi was founded by a group of friends, all with connections to Papua New Guinea, who were sick of talking about the injustices and inequalities that the people of Papua New Guinea faced, and instead wanted to take action. Having visited rural villages and noticing how under resourced and neglected the schools and health centres were, the team knew that they could utilise many quality used resources within Australia, that would otherwise go to landfill, to make a difference within rural communities. Through their connections in the education and health sectors here in Australia, the team was able to obtain and overwhelming amount of donations and support which assisted them in achieving their first project delivery. Since inception the Project Yumi team have been able to reach twelve provinces and deliver much needed educational and health resources to forty different organisations. Apart from their impact on the education and health sector through their Project Skul, Bush Dokta and Pass it on Project Initiatives, the Project Yumi team has also implemented an empowerment program, Project Wok, that supports economic growth for the country and demonstrates the capabilities of PNG youth. Moving forward, Project Yumi is motivated to continue supplying sustainable and achievable outcomes through assisting communities in rural areas of Papua New Guinea.

In 2026 Project Yumi Inc. is proud to commence a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with International Training Institute (ITI) to support the next generation of young Papua New Guineans through Project Wok.

We are incredibly grateful to ITI for joining us as a valued partner and for their commitment to creating greater opportunities for young people across PNG.

Through this partnership, ITI will provide free computer lab access and facilities to support Project Wok’s youth training programs, helping participants build essential digital, employment and workplace skills.

The partnership will also see ITI extend its facilities and support to other provinces across Papua New Guinea, alongside an ongoing commitment to provide donations and assistance to Project Yumi wherever possible.

This collaboration is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared commitment to education, skills development and creating pathways to employment for PNG’s future workforce.

A huge thank you to the ITI team for believing in the vision of Project Wok and for investing in the future of PNG’s young people. 💙

Project Yumi is proud to share the impact of a recent partnership with Kina Bank Payments and Digital Banking team, supporting mothers, newborns and families at Waima Health Centre in Kairuku District, Central Province.

Through this initiative, maternity packs filled with essential items for childbirth, recovery and newborn care, along with much-needed medical supplies for the health centre, have been donated to support the local community.

For mothers in rural communities, access to basic maternal health resources can make a meaningful difference. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this donation possible and proud to work alongside partners who share our commitment to improving health outcomes for mothers and babies across Papua New Guinea

Together, we can help ensure mothers and newborns have access to the essential support they need.

Partnerships like this one with Kina Bank are helping Project Yumi continue to make a difference in the lives of families and communities in Papua New Guinea.

Today we celebrate 51 years of independence and the incredible people, cultures, communities and spirit that make Papua New Guinea so unique.

From the highlands to the islands, from our communities to our workplaces, PNG is a country rich in diversity, strength and potential.

At Project Yumi, we’re proud to stand alongside communities in PNG and work together to create opportunities in education, healthcare and employment.

Supporting Safe Births Across Morobe and Madang

We are proud to continue our long-term partnership with the Kumura Foundation through the donation of essential birthing kits, helping support mothers and newborns in communities across Papua New Guinea.

These birthing kits will be distributed by the Travel2Trek team to health centres across Morobe and Madang, where access to basic birthing supplies can make an important difference for mothers, babies and health workers.

Each birthing kit contains essential supplies including:
* Gloves – for clean hands and to help reduce the spread of infections
* Plastic sheet – to provide a clean surface for the mother and newborn
* Soap – for hand and personal hygiene
* Cord ties – to safely tie the umbilical cord
* Gauze – for cleaning and wiping during and after birth
* Sterile blade – for cutting the umbilical cord safely

This partnership is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when organisations work together to get practical resources directly into the hands of communities that need them.

We look forward to continuing our work with Kumura Foundation and the Travel2Trek team to support maternal and newborn health across PNG.

📚☀️ Bringing Resources and Opportunity to Agibu SDA Primary School 🇵🇬

Through our ongoing partnership with Waniati Maternal Waiting Home, Project Yumi was proud to support Agibu SDA Primary School in the West Okapa LLG of Okapa District in the Eastern Highlands with a donation of reading books and Solar Buddy lights.

Established six years ago, Agibu SDA Primary School has continued to provide education to local children despite facing significant challenges. The school has operated with classrooms and administration buildings built from temporary bush materials, while four dedicated volunteer teachers have worked tirelessly to support students’ learning.

With limited access to essential educational resources and teaching aids, this donation provides valuable tools to enhance the learning environment and create greater opportunities for students.

A local community leader shared their deep appreciation on behalf of the community: “On behalf of the entire community, we extend our sincere gratitude to Waniati Maternal Waiting Home and Project YUMI for this generous donation. The reading books and Solar Buddy lights will make a significant difference in our students’ learning experiences.”

This initiative reflects the importance of community-led partnerships and our shared commitment to improving access to education across Papua New Guinea.

Supporting Learning at Iyapimuku Primary School 🇵🇬

Through our valued partnership with Waniati Maternal Waiting Home, Project Yumi was proud to support Iyapimuku Primary School in the Unggai LLG, Unggai/Bena District, with a donation of essential educational resources.

The Waniati Maternal Waiting Home team travelled 43 kilometres to reach the school and deliver teacher and student resources, including reading books, Solar Buddy lights, tables, and chairs, providing valuable support to enhance the learning environment and create greater opportunities for students.

School Principal Mr. Nick Kafare acknowledged the important contribution from Waniati Maternal Waiting Home and Project YUMI, expressing his deep gratitude for the timely support. He highlighted that these donations directly address critical resource gaps within the school and will help improve student morale, engagement, and academic outcomes.

Mr. Kafare also recognised the ongoing financial challenges facing Papua New Guinea’s education sector, noting that Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funding is often insufficient to purchase the essential teaching and learning materials required by schools.

Through strong partnerships and community-led solutions, we can continue supporting education and creating brighter futures for students across Papua New Guinea.
