LEAD Loddon Murray Developing leaders for vibrant and sustainable communities across central and north west Victoria

Since its inception in 1998 the Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program (LMCLP) has inspired and assisted over five hundred people from all walks of life to make a significant difference in their local communities and the wider region. Graduates are very active within their communities and available to assist not-for-profits and community groups. Under the umbrella of Community Leadership Progr

am, many successful projects have been delivered to help strengthen the region. These include the Women Leading Change forums, the Next Gen Ag Road Show and The Big Conversation, just to name a few.

Thoughtful leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about taking the time to listen, understand different perspectives, and make decisions that create lasting positive impact.

In our communities, thoughtful leaders build trust, bring people together, and create space for others to contribute. They are respectful of others, lead with empathy, ask good questions, and genuinely value different experiences and viewpoints.

Sometimes the most important leadership skill is simply pausing to listen before acting.

Over the years, the Campaspe Shire has often welcomed us for our opening and closing retreats, a place to begin new connections, challenge our thinking, reflect on our growth, and celebrate the journey together.

From the banks of the Murray to the vibrant communities that make this region unique, Campaspe has helped shape countless leadership experiences.

Thank you to for their support of the Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program over many years.

To our LMCLP cohorts from 1998–2006 - a little trip down memory lane

Before smartphones, before cloud storage, before we all carried cameras in our pockets… LMCLP was shaping leaders across our region. Those years were full of big ideas, long bus trips, farm gates, late‑night conversations, and friendships that have lasted decades, but not many digital photos to capture it all.

Our archives from 1998–2006 are precious but sparse. We’ve gathered a few treasured shots to share, but we know they barely scratch the surface of the stories, laughter, and learning that defined your time in the program.

If you have photos tucked in albums, shoeboxes, old folders, or even on a dusty USB, we’d love you to share them with us. Every image helps us honour the people and moments that built this program before social media was a thing.

From the forests to the farms, wetlands to community groups, our Gannawarra Shire program days offered a rich insight into the people, industries and landscapes that shape the region.

Across local communities including Kerang, Koondrook, Cohuna and Quambatook, participants explored the dairy and timber industries, gained a deeper understanding of natural resource management and national parks, and met the passionate community groups working to strengthen local communities.

We thank Gannawarra Shire Council for their commitment to fostering community leaders and for supporting the Loddon Murray Community Leadership program over many years.
