Hey everyone! Meet our amazing Abbie,
Abbie: I am the Mental Health Clinician at headspace Bathurst and just graduated with a Bachelor of Social work at Charles Sturt University! (Woo Hoo!)

I started studying Social Work in 2021 and feel very proud for finishing my degree. I have been working in different roles with headspace since 2019 and have absolutely loved the amazing opportunity to work at headspace Bathurst in a new capacity as a social worker.

The most memorable moment during my degree was having the awesome opportunity to represent youth mental health with headspace National in Denmark at the International Youth Mental Health Conference. I learnt so much about the needs and what we can do to further support young people worldwide, and I still use this knowledge gained in my role today. It also confirmed that I really wanted to continue working with young people as a social worker in the future.

My advice for anyone else studying is that it is so important to put yourself and your needs first. Studying is an amazing opportunity, but it requires you to check in with yourself regularly, and to lean on your support networks to walk alongside you in your journey! You should be so proud of yourself!

I also want to acknowledge and give a massive thanks to headspace Bathurst and Marathon Health for supporting me during my final placement. I gained so much incredible knowledge and learnings from my time, and it was the most fun part of my whole degree, and am so grateful for the opportunity to come back as an employee to keep supporting young people and their mental health journey. πŸ’πŸŽ“

We couldn’t be prouder of Abbie’s incredible accomplishments and the amazing work she does for headspace Bathurst and everyone she supports. πŸ‘πŸΌ

🌈 Two weeks on and we’re still feeling the magic of Pride ’n Stride 🌈
Watching this video takes us straight back to such a powerful and unforgettable day πŸ’›
We began with our Pride ’n Stride march, led proudly through town by the incredible Betty Confetti and Felicity Fox. The turnout for the march was honestly amazing, and seeing so many people walking together, loud and proud, was such a powerful moment for our community.
After the march, we were deeply honoured to be welcomed by our incredible Elders, who opened the event with a meaningful Smoking Ceremony and conversation, grounding the day in culture, respect, and connection.
From there, the celebrations continued. amazing performances, music, stalls, laughter, and so many beautiful connections. Every single act brought their absolute best, and everyone who came along helped create a space that felt safe, joyful, and full of pride.

A massive thank you to Greer Films for capturing the heart of the day so beautifully β€” this video truly shows what Pride ’n Stride is all about.
And to our sponsors and supporters, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support makes events like this possible, and we’re so grateful to have you standing alongside our community.

Thank you to everyone who marched, performed, volunteered, supported, and celebrated with us. This is what community looks like, and we can’t wait to keep growing Pride ’n Stride bigger and better every year 🌈✨
Happy Pride, Bathurst πŸ’›

We recently had the privilege of welcoming Joe Williams to Bathurst, where he delivered a powerful and meaningful talk hosted at Kelso High School. Students from Bathurst High School and Oberon High School also attended, coming together for an important conversation around mental health.

Joe has worn many hats throughout his career – from his time in the NRL with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, to professional boxing, and now as a respected mental health speaker through The Enemy Within. His journey is one of resilience, growth and purpose.

Throughout the session, Joe spoke openly about his personal struggles and the challenges he has faced in life. He shared how reconnecting with culture, family, and community, along with discovering his purpose, has shaped the person he is today. His message focused on overcoming adversity, building resilience, fostering connection, and supporting emotional wellbeing and healing from trauma.

His story resonated deeply with students and staff alike, offering insight, hope and encouragement for anyone facing their own challenges.

We are incredibly grateful to Joe for travelling to Bathurst and delivering such an impactful session for our young people. A big thank you to Kelso High School for hosting this event on the final day of term.

headspace Bathurst is always here to support young people in our community. If you or someone you know needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. For 24/7 assistance, please contact the Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511.

We are proud of our community and hope to welcome Joe back to Bathurst again in the future.
