Members from Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst recently held the Area Contests for 2026.

The contest was well supported by members, families, friends and a good level of support from Sydney based members.

The standard of the contests was very high and the winners now go on to compete at the Western Division contests in March.

It was a terrific example of how Toastmasters has helped all contestants in the areas of their communication and leadership skills combining to help them so much with their confidence and personal development.

Toastmasters clubs across Australia and internationally are all having their club contests, soon moving into area, division and district contests. The contests are; international speech contest, evaluation contest, humorous speech contest and table topics contest.

The international speech contest can mean winners from Australia and New Zealand can compete against the rest of the world at contest usually held in the USA. To our credit, Australians have won this challenging and highly prized contest to become the Toastmasters International speaker of the year.

Not all members want to or do enter contest, but all those who do, say just how different it is presenting a speech or evaluation even at a club contest level, let alone at the levels that follow.

Don’t forget, Bathurst Toastmasters meet at Panthers at 7 pm on the first and third Mondays of the month. Visitors are always made to feel welcome and you can contribute to the meeting if you want to, or sit there and observe what we do. Either way, we know you’ll leave with a smile on your face. Bathurst Toastmasters is in full swing again. “Winners” on Monday included a visitor who joined on the night! He commented on just how welcome he had been made to feel.

We meet at Bathurst Panthers at 7.00pm on the first and third Mondays of the month.

We closed off last year with a terrific Christmas meeting and our humorous speech contest. All contestants confirm that it was “different” speaking in a contest and that they found it well worth the extra effort.

The winners now go on to the area contest with the Orange and Dubbo clubs. Even though there is some very courteous rivalry, members from Orange came to help our club with our contest. That is the camaraderie that makes Toastmasters such a wonderful organisation.

So onwards and upwards for 2026 with our first meeting being held on Monday the 19th of January, 7.00pm start at Panthers.

Don’t hold back if you are nervous or hesitant in the company of others, we all were. That is usually the number one reason people join Toastmasters. Our meetings are non-threatening, fun, supportive and great fun. Come along and see for yourselves. There will no pressure on you to join.

Again, we had a very valuable (and fun) meeting last night.

Visitors saw new and experienced Toastmasters from all walks of life present short and longer assignments and be evaluated by other members. The evaluations are always helpful and form a critical part of our journey to greater self confidence.
