The Women’s Community Centre was established by the St. Peters Women’s Group to mark the first International Women’s Day in 1975, with the building from the St. Peters Council and the campaign for funding by the Women's Electoral Lobby from the Don Dunston’s Government. This historical first Women’s Community Centre was first R**e Crisis Centre and Women’s Shelter as well as the birth place of the

Women’s Information Service in South Australia. Hence its' history interwoven with the history of women’s advancement in this state. While it’s primary focus over the last four decades has been to nurture resilience in women, the whole community including children and men benefit from it’s very affordable services. Today it is a state wide service known for it’s safe and friendly women only space, providing work skills, legal services, recreational, wellbeing groups,healthy meals, Op-shop and free bread daily. It is a prooven stepping stone for migrants, school leavers and women of DV experiences. The last Women’s Community Centre in SA has a buzzing community of over 250 weekly users of including volunteers.

☀️ Yoga, sunshine, fresh air, and community — the perfect combination. 🧘‍♀️🌿

A huge thank you to Alyssa for sharing such a beautiful and grounding yoga class with us, and thank you Kala for the lovely invitation. It was such a peaceful way to enjoy the sunshine, reconnect with ourselves, and listen to nature’s gifts around us.

Alyssa is a trained Vinyasa Yoga teacher offering classes both indoors and outdoors in beautiful surroundings.

Women’s Community Centre SA is proudly preparing for our upcoming Gala Dinner; a special evening dedicated to celebrating community, connection and the empowerment of women across South Australia.

We are currently seeking businesses, organisations and community partners to support this important event through sponsorships, donations, raffle prizes or contributions toward the evening.

By supporting our Gala, you are not only helping create a memorable community event, but also contributing to the ongoing work of the Centre in providing safe spaces, programs and support services for women from all walks of life.

Today, we honour the many meanings of “mother.”

A mother is not only someone who gives birth.
A mother can be the person who nurtures, protects, guides, listens, sacrifices, teaches, comforts, and shows up with love; again and again.

For some, it is Mum.
For others, it is a grandmother, aunt, sister, foster carer, mentor, friend, community elder, or someone who stepped in when they were needed most.

Motherhood exists in many forms, and today we celebrate every person who has carried care, strength, compassion, and unconditional support for others.

We also hold space for those who find today difficult; those grieving, healing, longing, estranged, or remembering.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the nurturers, protectors, and hearts that make others feel safe and loved. 💐
