FACES OF LIVEFREE // G*I

Every team needs people you just know you can count on.
G*i is one of those people.

As part of our Brighter Beginnings Bus team, G*i brings reliability, care and a willingness to simply get in and help. No need for recognition or fanfare, just showing up and getting on with it.

Those people are pretty special to us.
And we’re really grateful G*i is one of ours.

HERE’S THE THING // MENTORING

One consistent adult can make a bigger difference than we sometimes realise.
Research around youth mentoring consistently points to the value of supportive relationships with trusted adults, particularly when those relationships are consistent, genuine and built over time.
And that’s really the key.

Mentoring isn’t about one big conversation that changes everything.
It’s the check-in.

Remembering the things that matter and holding theur story, knowing the importance of it. Noticing when something feels off.
Celebrating the small wins, as well as the big ones.

Being there again next week.
Those moments might feel ordinary, but over time they can help strengthen a young person’s sense of connection, confidence and belonging.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer a young person is simply another safe adult in their corner.

MISSION IN MOTION // MENTORING

Mentoring doesn’t always look particularly impressive from the outside.

Sometimes it’s a conversation in the car. Shooting hoops. A walk along the beach. Sitting beside a young person who doesn’t particularly feel like talking.

It’s consistency over spectacle.

Our mentors create space for young people to be known beyond their behaviour, their circumstances, their school report or the hardest thing happening in their world.

There is no quick fix and no perfectly scripted conversation.
Just trusted adults who keep turning up.
And we’ve seen again and again just how powerful that can be.

WELCOME BACK // TERM 4
And just like that… we’re back.

Term 4 is always a big one around here. Programs running, schools finishing, families navigating the end-of-year juggle and, before we know it, Christmas will be knocking on the door.
But amongst all the busy, our heart stays the same.

To notice people.
To make room.
To strengthen what is already there.
To walk alongside families when life gets heavy.
To create places where people know they belong.

There’s a whole lot ahead over the coming months, and we can’t wait to bring you along for it.

Here’s to finishing 2026 well, together.

There’s still time to grab your smartest mates, brush up on your completely useless knowledge and join us for a night of good food, great company and a little friendly competition, all while supporting LIVEfree Project.

We’re taking over Grill’d Kotara for dinner and trivia, with raffle prizes up for grabs and plenty of laughs along the way.

FACES OF LIVEFREE // SUE

If there’s something happening at LIVEfree, there’s a fair chance Sue has found her way into it. She’s one of our familiar faces on the Brighter Beginnings Bus and also gives her time to INSPIRE, but what Sue brings goes well beyond the programs she volunteers in.

She’s warm, dependable and genuinely interested in people. The kind of person who remembers the little things, makes conversation easy and helps people feel comfortable just by being herself.

There’s something pretty special about volunteers who become part of the fabric of a place. They know the kids. They know the families. They know the team. And somewhere along the way, they stop feeling like “a volunteer” and simply become part of LIVEfree.

That’s Sue. And we wouldn't have it any other way.

THE WHY BEHIND IT // CRISIS SUPPORT

A crisis rarely stays neatly in one box.

Financial stress can affect housing. Housing instability can affect school attendance. Food insecurity can affect concentration. Family breakdown can impact wellbeing, relationships and a young person’s sense of safety.

It stacks.

Which is why sometimes the most important thing we can do is respond early — before one hard thing becomes five.

Our crisis support isn’t about swooping in with all the answers. It’s about reducing the immediate pressure, helping people find their feet and connecting them with the right support for what comes next.

Because sometimes a little breathing room can change everything.

MISSION IN MOTION // CRISIS SUPPORT

Sometimes crisis arrives loudly.

Other times, it looks like an empty fridge. A tank sitting on empty. A family suddenly without somewhere safe to sleep. A young person carrying far more than anyone their age should have to.

Crisis intervention at LIVEfree is about meeting the immediate need without losing sight of the person standing in front of us.

Yes, sometimes that means food, fuel, clothing or practical support. But it also means advocacy, connection to services, a familiar face and someone willing to help untangle what comes next.

We can’t always change what brought someone to our door.

But we can make sure they don’t have to navigate the next part alone.
