Non-perishable food donations like these make such a difference for people doing it tough, especially those without access to refrigeration or heating. It means there's something to eat that doesn't need to be kept cold or cooked, and won't go off before it's needed.

Want to know what's on our most-needed list right now? Head to our website to see how you can help, or submit the form if you've got something to donate and aren't sure where to start.

A huge thank you to Simon and Zane from Simon Wall Property for getting behind this year's Winter Appeal.

Their office became a collection point for the Merewether and Newcastle community, and the response was incredible.

Warm clothing, beanies, non-perishable food and beautifully knitted blankets came in from people who wanted to make a difference for those doing it tough this winter. It's a good reminder of what a community can pull together when they're given an easy way to help.

Thank you Simon and Zane, and thank you to everyone who dropped something off πŸ’›

What happens when you put a room full of community organisations together and ask them to share instead of compete? You get a morning like this one.

Our Chairman, Alex Rees, spent the morning at the Connect for Purpose breakfast at Soul Hub Newcastle.

The idea behind it was simple. Instead of asking "what do we need?", what if we asked "what have we already got that we could share?"

Alex was one of the speakers kicking things off, talking through some of the ways we collaborate and share resources at REACH. Michelle Faithfull from Home in Place/Hunter Homeless Connect spoke too, and from there the whole room got into it, with people offering up connections, spaces and expertise, whatever they had going spare.

It's a good reminder that sometimes the thing you're after already exists. It just might belong to whoever's sitting next to you.

Thanks to Connect for Purpose for putting the morning together, the crew at Soul Hub Newcastle for hosting while still looking after their regular guests, and Beyond Bank for backing this community for ten years running πŸ’›

A huge thank you to Franky from Tasty Trucks, pictured here with some awesome representatives from Gateway Care and our wonderful Reach volunteer, Kris Sullivan.

Tasty Trucks will now be making a regular food donation every second Thursday, helping us keep meals on the table for people doing it tough in our community.

Thank you Tasty Trucks for backing this work. Every donation like this makes a real difference πŸ’›

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the closing down of Slingtown later this month.

Slingtown has been a huge part of the Islington community for 20 odd years, and a HUGE part of the Reach family.

Slingtown, made up of Chris, Steph and their extended tribe, has supported the work Reach does for years, and they created a space where people could come together and a space where it was safe for anyone to go in and say I need a break can you help me brother.

We cannot thank them enough and hope the next part of their journey is entirely successful, beautiful and long lived.

If any of our supporters are looking to change their corporate coffee supplier, add Slingtown roasted coffee beans to their retail space or simply need a new place to have their weekly coffee meetings, hit Chris up at Good Brother on Kings St in town or over at The Pav in Carrington!

We celebrated our new HOME and wonderful volunteers last week and what a night it was!

Supporters, volunteers and friends of Reach Homeless Services came together to check out our new space, share some food, and soak up the community spirit that makes Reach what it is.

Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us. This new space means more room to grow, more room to support, and more room for the incredible community around Reach Homeless Services πŸ’›

Hunter Homeless Connect Day brings together people doing it tough in our community with vital services, all in a welcoming, dignified environment.

A huge thank you to Red Funnel for supplying the bacon and eggs, to The Del for supplying the bread rolls, and to Loyalty Management Solutions who rolled up their sleeves on roll-cutting duty. Mornings like this don’t happen without generous locals like you.

Last week we had the honour of presenting Life Membership to Mick Egan, in recognition of 11 years of volunteer service with Reach Homeless Services.

Over more than a decade, Mick has shown up again and again, managing volunteers, supporting our services week in and week out, and always going above and beyond what was asked of him. Year after year, he's also helped raise vital funds through the annual Row for Reach, supporting the very community he's spent years serving.

His impact goes well beyond the hours he's put in (and there have been MANY hours)! Mick has helped shape Reach into what it is today, and the people and volunteers he's supported along the way carry that forward.

As Mick steps back to spend more time with family, we want to say thank you!! For the years, the leadership, and the heart you've brought to Reach πŸ’›
