Meet VFN Member Business: KUMON Maths and English 📚✨

Behind KUMON Wien-Hietzing is someone who understands both sides of learning, the joy when something finally clicks, and the frustration when homework suddenly feels too difficult.

With a background in education and psychology, she works closely with families and focuses not only on academic progress, but also on helping children build confidence, independence and the belief that “I can do hard things.”

KUMON Wien-Hietzing offers individualised Maths and English programmes designed to help children strengthen their skills, work at their own pace and gradually become more confident, independent learners.

Because sometimes the biggest achievement isn’t just getting the answer right — it’s seeing a child realise they can figure it out for themselves. 💜

Meet VFN Member Business: Vienna Toy Library 🧸🌱

Meet Alison Chan, the mum of two behind Vienna Toy Library: Vienna’s first and only toy library focused on eco-conscious play for children aged 0–6.

Concerned about climate change and looking for practical ways to make everyday family life a little more sustainable, Alison created Vienna Toy Library around a simple idea: children can enjoy variety, discovery and great toys without families having to keep buying more.

Vienna Toy Library is a social business that puts people and planet first, using its revenue to help address social and environmental challenges.

And there’s a special offer for our VFN community 💜

New VFN members can enjoy a 30-day free trial, borrow up to 6 toys at a time, and exchange them as often as they like. There are currently four exchange locations across Vienna.

Meet VFN Member Business: English Dance Academy Wien 💃🎭

If you’ve been part of VFN for a while, chances are you already know Katy. 💜 A long-standing member and volunteer, she has been behind many of the events, activities and special moments our community has enjoyed over the years.

Katy is also the founder and owner of English Dance Academy Wien, where she teaches and brings that same sense of community, creativity and connection to everything EDA does.

EDA offers English-speaking dance and musical theatre classes in a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults. For younger dancers, the programme includes Ballet, Musical Theatre, Commercial Dance, Soft-Shoe Tap and Adventures in Dance, while adults can choose from a range of movement and dance classes, including pre- and post-natal options.

✨ New this November:
A Contemporary Dance class for ages 8+ starts on Tuesday, 3 November at Commonroom.

And EDA is about much more than weekly classes! Throughout the year, students and families can also take part in special events, assessments, awards and full theatre productions.

If you’ve been part of the VFN community for a while, you may already know Neta and her warm, natural photography style. From growing bumps and tiny newborn details to family moments, couples and milestones, she loves capturing the moments you’ll want to remember long after they’ve passed. 🤍
And there’s plenty coming up!

Join us for Operation: Monster Search — a Halloween adventure where children become Monster Detectives, follow clues, solve challenges and piece together the evidence along the way.

🎃 The VFN Halloween Trick or Treat Map is back!

Looking for places to go trick or treating this Halloween, or happy to welcome little ghosts, witches and monsters at your door? 👻🍬

We’re putting together our community Trick or Treat Map again, and we’d love your help filling it with stops around Vienna. VFN members, friends, family and neighbours are all welcome to take part and add their address.

Not home on Halloween? You can still join by leaving a bowl of treats outside and adding a note when you register.

🔒 The map will only be shared with VFN members and participating third parties, and will be deleted the day after Halloween. Please don’t share the map or its link further.

How do we talk to children about death, loss and grief? 💜

Sometimes these questions come when we least expect them - after losing a grandparent or a pet, hearing something at school, or simply out of curiosity. And as parents, we don't always know what to say, how much to explain or which words to use.

For our October VFN Workshop Series, we're welcoming volunteers from MOMO Kinderpalliativzentrum, our Charity of the Year, to help us approach these difficult conversations with more confidence and understanding.

Together, we'll explore how children understand loss at different ages, what language can help, what to avoid, and which books and resources can support us along the way.

October has entered the chat… and it’s bringing coffee, teddy bears, teachers, grandparents, Halloween and quite a few important reminders along the way. 🍂

This month, we’re celebrating the people and little things that make family life richer, while also making space for conversations that matter, from mental health and menopause to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

There’s plenty of fun in the mix too: World Animal Day, Back to the Future Day, Teddy Bear Day… and, of course, Halloween. 🎃

We are so excited to see both sessions of our exclusive VFN Member Business Charity Event, “Bring Out the Woman in You,” fully booked.

Created especially for VFN members, this event offers our mums the chance to step away from everyday life, enjoy a relaxed social evening and be photographed by a team of professional photographers in the heart of Vienna.

What makes it even more meaningful? Every ticket supports MOMO, our Charity of the Year, with all proceeds going directly to their work with children and families facing life-threatening or life-shortening illnesses.
