A project which reinterprets musical roots. Roots Revival establishes musical dialogues among various cultures from around the globe.

An international project in which each musician comes from a different cultural background in an effort to focus on musical roots around the world and to bring traditional music at a crossroad of contemporary experiments influenced by traditional, jazz, folk and world music. The concept started in 2013 at the initiative of Mehdi Aminian which coordinated the events of each theme-Maramures and Ma

ria Tanase. Mehdi is currently developing the project focusing on new musical compositions. The first CD Roots Revival Romania is available at Carturesti bookshop since February 2014. Un proiect international ce reuneste muzicieni din diverse tari in incercarea de a aduce cantece traditionale romanesti in centrul unor experimente contemporane influentate de jazz, folk si world music. Conceptul s-a nascut in 2013 la initiativa lui Mehdi Aminian, coordonatorul evenimentelor corespunzatoare fiecarei teme, Maramures si Maria Tanase. In prezent Mehdi dezvolta proiectul in perspectiva materializarii unor noi compozitii muzicale. Primul CD Roots Revival Romania este disponibil in Librariile Carturesti din Februarie 2014.

A rare evening for Roots Stage.

Ustad Noor Bakhsh, the legendary Benju master from the Makran Coast of Balochistan, comes to Vienna with fellow musicians Doshambay Sabir (Damboora) and Daniyal Ahmed (Damboora, Bansuri) for a unique concert featuring a special repertoire curated exclusively for Roots Stage Series and performed publicly for the first time.

Following the concert, join us for an intimate on-stage conversation with the artists and hear their stories, inspirations, and reflections on the musical traditions that have shaped their lives.

Ustad Noor Bakhsh at Roots Stage on 21 July

Roots Stage is honored to welcome Ustad Noor Bakhsh, one of the most remarkable musicians of the Makran Coast of Balochistan, for a rare concert in Vienna.

For this special evening, Noor Bakhsh and his fellow musicians Doshambay Sabir and Daniyal Ahmed will present a unique repertoire curated especially for Roots Stage and performed publicly for the very first time. Alongside the powerful instrumental music for which Noor Bakhsh has become internationally known, the program will offer a glimpse into more personal aspects of his musical journey, drawing on memories, influences, and pieces that have accompanied him throughout his life.

Following the concert, audiences are invited to remain for a special on-stage conversation with the artists. This intimate exchange offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from Ustad Noor Bakhsh, Doshambay, and Daniyal about their lives, stories, musical inspirations, and the traditions that have shaped their art.

Meet Tcha Limberger.
In Transylvanian gypsy music, Tcha brings participants closer to the sound, rhythm and phrasing of this tradition. The workshop works through repertoire, ornamentation, ensemble playing, listening and repetition.

On June 27, 2026, Lakkshya brings contemporary interpretations of Carnatic music from South India to Vienna.
