July is Disability Pride Month! 💙

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of persons with disabilities while championing inclusion and equal opportunities for all.

At Jairos Jiri Association, we empower persons with disabilities through rehabilitation, education, skills development, healthcare support, advocacy, and community programmes across Zimbabwe.

Every follow-up visit is an opportunity to witness lives being transformed.

Through our Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Programme, implemented in partnership with JF Kapnek Zimbabwe and with support from Liliane Fonds, Jairos Jiri Association visited Ward 10 to follow up on project beneficiaries and the progress of community initiatives established through the programme.

Following caregiver training conducted in 2025, eleven caregiver support groups have been successfully established, with all of them participating in Internal Savings and Lending (ISAL) schemes to strengthen their economic resilience while supporting children and youths with disabilities. Several of these groups have also received additional support through the Ministry of Health and Child Care Rehabilitation Department's P2P Programme to enhance their ISAL activities.

During the visit, we met members of one of the support groups, witnessed therapy sessions being conducted for a child with a disability, and visited a beneficiary's nutrition garden. One caregiver shared a remarkable testimony of her grandchild's progress. Through regular therapy and the support of her caregiver group, the child has made significant improvements in mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.

These stories remind us that when communities are empowered with knowledge, support, and opportunities, they become catalysts for lasting change and greater inclusion.

On 2 July 2026, through our Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Programme, implemented in partnership with JF Kapnek Zimbabwe and Liliane Fonds, Jairos Jiri Association visited Sontala Primary School to celebrate milestones in promoting disability inclusion.

We had a meaningful day at Sontala Primary School as Jairos Jiri Association, witnessed the distribution of a wheelchair to one of our programme participants, enhancing mobility and independence.

We were also inspired by the Adolescent Disability Ambassadors, who recited powerful poems during the school assembly, educating fellow learners on disability rights and inclusion.

The visit also highlighted the school’s commitment to accessibility through newly constructed inclusive toilets, ramps, and pathways, creating a more inclusive learning environment for all.
