In today's rapidly evolving digital and Al-driven world, equal access to digital platforms is essential for everyone - including people with visual impairments and disabilities.

An Accessibility Audit, in collaboration with Collaboration on International ICT Policy in East and Southern Africa helps organizations assess how compliant their digital platforms are with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.

By evaluating websites, applications, and digital services, organizations can identify gaps, improve user experience, and ensure that no one is left behind in the digital transformation journey.

We are pleased to announce that the Zimbabwe Council for the Blind (ZCfB) is officially commencing work on a Digital Accessibility and Inclusive AI initiative in collaboration with the Collaboration on International ICT Policy in East and Southern Africa
As Zimbabwe advances its digital transformation agenda through the Zimbabwe National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, it is critical that persons with disabilities, particularly persons with visual impairments, are not left behind. This project seeks to promote accessible, inclusive, and rights-based digital systems across public platforms in Zimbabwe.
Guided by the CIPESA Accessibility Framework and WCAG 2.1 principles, the initiative will focus on:
• Conducting accessibility audits of public digital platforms
• Building technical capacity among ICT officers and developers
• Promoting inclusive and AI-responsive digital design
• Strengthening policy dialogue on accessibility and digital inclusion
• Empowering persons with visual impairments through digital literacy and assistive technology training
Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute towards an inclusive digital ecosystem where technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence work for everyone.
We look forward to engaging government institutions, developers, policymakers, disability organizations, and technology stakeholders throughout this important journey.
Together, we can build a more accessible and inclusive digital future for Zimbabwe.
