In this Women's Month, we celebrate Nosipho Dlamini, one of our WLTP girls that is currently at the international Young Women's Leadership Programme. Nosipho went to the Commission on the Status of Women in 2024 where she made he rmark. Her leadership journey has bloomed.

Preparing Boys to Lead a Violence-Free Future
🌿 Real change starts long before a programme is launched—it starts in community conversations.
In Hlokozi, 34 young people and parents came together for a planning meeting ahead of the launch of the Inhlabamkhosi Boys’ Programme.
The session was about more than logistics—it was about building shared understanding of what it means to raise boys who are responsible, respectful, and committed to non-violence 🤝.
Participants discussed leadership, discipline, teamwork, and respect. Young people were encouraged to step forward, and many volunteered for roles such as speech-making, welcoming guests, and supporting programme coordination 🎤.
One of the strongest outcomes was the sense of unity between boys, girls, and parents working together toward a common goal: building safer communities.
💬 As participants reflected, the programme is not only about boys—it is about everyone playing a role in shaping positive behaviour and stronger relationships.
🌱 When communities prepare together, transformation becomes collective.

🌱🌼 Growing leaders, growing gardens, growing hope! 🌼🌱

Our pr***en girls and boys in Hlokozi rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty while learning how healthy gardens create healthy communities. 🌿💚
Together they discovered the importance of companion planting, mulching, composting, biodiversity and caring for the environment—all while developing practical skills they can use at home to grow nutritious food. 🥕🌽🌻
There were smiles, shared meals 🍲 and new recipes! These moments remind us that learning happens best when children work together, connect with nature and build confidence through practical experience.
Every seed planted today is an investment in stronger, healthier and more resilient young leaders for tomorrow. 🌍✨

The past week marks the agency and the leadership of the Madzikane Tribal Authority's journey for meaningful support for the Inhlabamkhosi Boys project. This initiative was launched by FOUR TRADITIONAL AUTHORITIES in May 2026 in Centocow and Hlokozi.
In the 4 years, WLTP will deepen their work by Training iziMfolomane, amaGosa and iziNduna to realise their important role of mentoring boys in their TA. WLTP doesn't take this role lightly and fully respects the Traditional Leaders who said, "Train our Boys and Young Men just as you have successfully done it with our Girls".

I remember Nduna MaMajola Makhanya who understood the pain of Boys and communicated it to us.
In 2029, these boys and young men will walk tall and confident in their role as responsible men of our communities.

Two other Tribal Authorities will join in. WLTP wishes to train more of these groups sooner.

What Does True Solidarity Look Like?
❤️ Sometimes leadership is found in the small decisions we make about how we treat others.
As young people prepared for the launch of the Inhlabamkhosi Boys Programme in Centocow, they rehearsed speeches 🗣️, songs 🎶, and drama 🎭 performances. But one moment stood out above all.
The group chose to invite a former participant who had been excluded by some because she had lost her virginity. Instead of judging her, the young people insisted that she belonged 🌍.
One participant explained:
"We are about promoting gender equality. This child must not carry the burden while the boy is enjoying life. We want her to be part of the event and show her talent."
This act of inclusion sparked an important conversation about double standards ⚖️, dignity ✊, and fairness. It showed that gender equality is not only about policies and programmes—it is also about everyday choices that challenge stigma and create belonging.
The rehearsals also helped participants build confidence 💪 in public speaking, teamwork 🤝, and leadership. Young people supported one another, gave constructive feedback, and discovered talents they did not know they had 🌟.
🌟 Leadership is not about standing above others. It is about standing with others.

A Powerful Launch for Boys, Girls, and the Community
🔥 In Hlokozi, around 240 community members gathered for the official launch of the Inhlabamkhosi Boys’ Programme—a bold step toward preventing gender-based violence and strengthening youth leadership.
The event brought together parents 👨‍👩‍👧, traditional and community stakeholders 👑, government representatives 🏛️, home-based carers ❤️, and young people 👧🏽👦🏽 from across the area.
The launch opened with a deeply moving candle-lighting ceremony 🕯️, honouring lives lost through violence and remembering women, children, and elders affected by abuse and injustice. It was a moment of reflection, healing, and unity.
Throughout the event, speakers emphasised the importance of guiding boys toward positive masculinity, respect, and responsibility. Young people responded with strong commitments to reject violence, bullying, and harmful behaviour.

One of the most powerful messages came from the youth themselves: a desire to build a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and protected 🌍.
🌟 The launch was not just an event—it was a collective promise to do better together.

Can traditions evolve while still honouring our culture?
This was one of the powerful questions explored by young people, parents, and community members during a recent Women's Leadership and Training Programme (WLTP) coaching session in Centocow 🌿
Participants engaged in honest conversations about marriage, lobola 💍, gender roles, and leadership 👥. They reflected on how some cultural practices are sometimes misunderstood and discussed ways to build healthier, more equal relationships within families and communities ❤️.
What stood out was the willingness of young people to ask difficult questions and listen to different perspectives. Through dialogue 🗣️ and drama 🎭, they explored how culture can be a source of strength while also adapting to the realities faced by today's generation.
One participant shared:
"We should get rid of what is not working for us, even if it worked for our grandparents."
The session reminded us that leadership begins with critical thinking 💡, respectful dialogue, and the courage to speak up when something needs to change.
🌱 Real transformation starts when communities create safe spaces for conversation.

WLTP is coming to an end of the funding cycle with GBVRF, a fund that started to work with us in 2004.
In all the learnings, we never imagined the actions of the trained girls and boys to reach this level. These talented leaders have engaged with various stakeholders to navigate the meaning of the Boy Child and Children's Protection in Society.

As Amanda Mjoli stated in her speech "Boys and Girls working together give the balance of the bicycle", we are grateful to Emthonjeni Girls for supporting the establishment of the Boy Child Network in Harry Gwala and Ugu District Municipalities. Two historic moments took place in Hlokozi and in Madzikane Hall where over 600 people, 16 schools, and 5 Tribal Authorities participated in the Boys Network called Inhlabamkhosi (The Heralds) on the 23 and 26 May 2026.

WLTP was blessed by Councillor Mthobisi Dlamini from Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma (NDZ) Municipality, who gave all his support in his speech. With the staff of only 2 people organising this event, other stakeholders were sadly not reached, but will be invited on the series of activities in the 4 year cycle that WLTP is embarking on.
The highlight of these two events is the number of Boys and Girls who have gone back into their schools already to spead the Network. Halala to Mashayilanga Primary School where learners have presented the network to 1026 learners just a day after the launch of the Boy Child Network.

In April, Boys and Girls in Hlokozi KZN embarked on a series of Psychosocial Support and Care for themselves and their communities. They engaged with the Community Health Workers and Traditional Leadership on Crime and Gender Based Violence in communities.
