Pevensey Place

Pevensey Place Pevensey Place is a home for cerebral palsy adults. It is situated in the farming community of Underberg, Kwa Zulu Natal.

In the late 1960's a growing need for an institution taking care of adults with cerebral palsy was experienced in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. In response to this need Pevensey Place was opened in 1972 as a joint venture between the national Round Table of South Africa and the KwaZulu-Natal Cerebral Palsy Association. The Round Table is known all over the world for its work with the u

nderprivileged, while the KwaZulu-Natal Cerebral Palsy Association is a privately run organisation with no state funding, depending on the good will of individuals and organisations (and a lot of voluntary work) to raise funds to provide adequate facilities and an improved quality of living to these adults with cerebral palsy. Pevensey Place is situated on an 80 hectare farm in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg mountains, near the town of Underberg in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. The farm operates on a 'Kibbutz' system, where every resident is responsible for a task within his/her capabilities, whether it is working on the farm, assisting other residents who are less mobile or who have a more severe mental disability than themselves, helping in the kitchen, etc. Because all of the residents are to a certain extent mentally and/or physically impaired, this serves to give them a sense of purpose in life and self worth.

Hi everyone! 😊

A huge heartfelt thank you from all of us at Pevensey Place for the absolutely wonderful outing at Piggly Wiggly Country Village on Friday 🙏

Our residents had such an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment — from the train ride, mini golf, and ceramic painting, to the lovely lunch shared together. The smiles, laughter, and excitement throughout the day meant so much, and they are still talking about the experience today 😊

We would especially like to thank the incredible Piggly Wiggly team for your kindness, patience, and warm hospitality. Your effort and care truly made the day feel special and memorable for everyone who attended.

We are so grateful for the wonderful memories created, and we sincerely hope we’ll be able to visit again next year! ❤️

Headline: Our Secret Ingredient is Out! 🤫🥘
We’ve always known the folks at Sani Round Table 152 are stars, but now it’s official! The SANI Round Table has nominated their involvement and projects with us for Project of the Year and Table of the Year, because why not go for the gold? 🏆
To sweeten the deal, our residents put pen to paper and signed a Pevensey Recipe Book to send over to Vos Botha, Round Table South Africa President, with the proposal. We figured a little "home-grown flavor" would make the nomination impossible to resist! It clearly worked, because Vos was so chuffed he sent us this lovely video shout-out to say thanks.
The Sani 152 Stats of Love:
12 Projects completed.
300+ Volunteer Hours (and probably just as many "coffee" 😉 breaks).
R300,000 invested into making Pevensey even more awesome.
The big bosses at ARTSA will announce the winners at the end of the month. We’re not saying we’ve already cleared a spot on the mantelpiece... but we’re definitely keeping our fingers, toes, and kitchen utensils crossed for Sani 152! 🍴🤞
Sending a massive shout-out to the SANI 152 Round Table guys—you’ve got big hearts and (clearly) great taste in recipe books. 📖❤️

Today we had a very special visit from Joel the Magician, who came to bring some cheer to our residents who aren't going home for the holidays or haven't left yet. We even had some friends of Pevensey who came to visit and enjoy the show with us.
Ryan and Graham were flabbergasted when little sponge ducks disappeared from one person's hand and popped up in the other person's hand. Grace was absolutely astonished that her signed card ended up in locked boxes, although she was just a little bit more excited by the cute little treasure chests the card landed up in. Janet and Marissa were not too impressed that Joel kept making their ropes knot, much to the amusement of the onlooking residents. Jono came to visit us at Pevensey and he was one of the lucky volunteers on the stage. He was a bit worried when he realized that he might lose a finger in a guillotine and was rethinking his life choices, but he luckily left the stage unscathed!
At the end of his magic show, Joel pulled out his saxophone and played two lovely songs. Some of us jumped a bit on the first note—let's just say our little hall has amazing acoustics! It was a very entertaining morning for all, and we really appreciate the visit from Joel. We hope to see him again in the near future!
