🐄🎾 FARM STRONG… TENNIS TOUGH? 🎾🐄

This is Johan.
Farmer. Legend.
Can wrestle cattle before sunrise…
But one game of tennis at WimbleGin and the hamstring taps out before tea time.

If a hard-working Underberg farmer is willing to risk a pulled hammy for a day on the court… what’s your excuse? 😏

🍸 WimbleGin – 18 July
A day of tennis, laughs, gin, gees, and good people — all for a great cause.
You don’t need to be Federer.
You don’t need to be fit.
You just need a sense of humour and a willingness to have a jol.

🎾 Not playing? You’re missing out.
📋 Entries are filling up — get yours in.
🌄 Come be part of one of Underberg’s favourite days on the calendar.

Pulled hamstrings heal.
FOMO lasts forever.

Meet a Member Monday | Sani 152

Meet Michael Beghin (34) — born-and-bred farmer, early riser, and a man who’s never been afraid of a bit of dirt under his nails.

Michael grew up on a beef farm in Hluhluwe, spending his childhood on a cattle ranch and loving every muddy, dusty minute of it. Farming wasn’t just a career choice — it was a way of life from day one.

After school, Michael headed to Saasveld in George, then took his skills abroad, spending five years in the USA driving tractors. Eventually, the pull of home became too strong, and he returned to South Africa, landing a role in Underberg — a move he’s never looked back on. Safe to say, he’s pretty close to his dream job, and the community hasn’t scared him off either 😉

A typical day starts at the crack of dawn and includes a bit of everything: managing people, fixing what’s broken, driving tractors, and looking after animals. If it needs doing, chances are Michael’s doing it.

When he’s not farming, you’ll find him outdoors — hunting, fishing, or enjoying a cold beer around a fire with friends. His wife Cayla and their two dogs, Milo and Miley, are his everything and keep him going day in and day out.

Michael joined Round Table Sani 152 in 2019 after moving to Underberg, seeing it as the obvious way to meet people and become part of the community. In his words, it was the best decision he made. He describes the members as “real legends” — a group that consistently goes above and beyond to help complete strangers and make meaningful change locally.

“It fills the heart knowing you’ve done something good for people who need it.”

We’re grateful for the memories already made with Michael and look forward to many more around the table, the fire, and the community.

PEVENSEY TO THE BEACH 2026 🌊

One of SANI152’s standout projects of the year was once again our annual “Pevensey to the Beach” weekend — a project not focused on fundraising, but purely on spending meaningful quality time with the residents of Pevensey Place. ❤️

From the moment everyone arrived on Friday, the excitement from the residents was contagious. Questions about the weekend plans, who was joining, and what adventures lay ahead filled the room with anticipation.

The weekend kicked off with a visit to Winklespruit Beach to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Friday evening then brought everyone together around the fire for boerie rolls prepared by Gerhard, proudly taking on the role of braai master, assisted by a few eager helpers from Pevensey.

Saturday started with an early sunrise walk on the beach before heading off to Splash World. Before the gates opened, residents and tablers enjoyed a competitive soccer match while waiting. Once inside, the excitement truly came alive as residents tackled the slides, pools, and rides throughout the day. Boki and Gerrit quickly helped others conquer their fears of the bigger slides, turning nerves into nonstop laughter and excitement.

Saturday evening saw everyone return back to base for hot showers, 34 Roman’s pizzas, and a disco that quickly turned into a hilarious breakdance competition between residents and tablers.

Sunday brought more beach time, cricket, swimming, and one of the biggest highlights of the weekend — the arrival of around 10 bikers who spent time with the residents and took them for rides around the open field where everyone was staying. The excitement and smiles were unforgettable.

The weekend ended with burgers, ghost crab hunting, marshmallows, and a beach bonfire under the stars at Winklespruit Beach.

A massive thank you as well to the members from Margate 46 and Kloof 190 who joined in throughout the weekend and added to the incredible atmosphere and fellowship.

Projects like this remind us that not every impactful project is measured in money raised. Sometimes the biggest impact simply comes from showing up, spending time together, and making memories that last forever.

Thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable weekend possible. ❤️

🎾🍸 REMINDER: WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE? 🍸🎾

If Bud and Thatch — both fully fledged 41ers — can still pick up a tennis racket, limp onto a court, and have a proper go…
then honestly, what’s stopping you?

WimbleGin – By the Legs is happening on 18 July, and entries are filling up fast. This is social tennis at its finest — mixed doubles, Wimbledon vibes, gin in hand, and gees turned all the way up.

No rankings.
No pressure.
Just a good day out with good people, run (very efficiently) by the Legs of Sani152.

📍 Himeville Tennis Club
⏰ Starts at 9am
💰 R500 per team
📞 Entries: Donae Keet – 072 449 1807

And if tennis really isn’t your thing — come watch, come laugh, and come support local, with Pevensey Place on hand serving their legendary pancakes.

Because if the old boys are still giving it a crack…
you’ve officially run out of excuses.

🎾🍸 See you on the courts (or courtside).

🍸 SANI152 WIMBLEGIN – BY THE LEGS 🍸🎾

Every year, something quietly remarkable happens in Himeville.

A tennis event appears.
Everything is on time.
Everything is organised.
Even the ice is sorted.

Which is how you know… the Legs of Sani152 are involved.

WimbleGin is a community mixed doubles tennis day with Wimbledon vibes, gin in hand, and just enough competitive energy to make grown men argue about line calls they definitely didn’t see.

It is run entirely by the Legs.

The men of Sani152 arrive early, mostly to comment on how things could have been done better. By mid-morning, they’ve moved from spectators to self-appointed coaches, despite the fact that most of us haven’t played proper tennis since school.

Bud Manthe is usually first in, leaning into his 41er status like a badge of honour, reminiscing about a time when knees worked properly and rackets didn’t need replacing every season.

Michael Beghin, Sani Chairman and farmer, brings strong forearms and strong opinions, treating every rally like a boundary dispute — committed, physical, and occasionally uncertain about where the actual line is.

Then there’s Tian Keet, married to a professional tennis player, which means every match carries silent expectations and the faint sense that somewhere, someone is watching in disappointment… but politely.

Meanwhile, the Legs quietly run everything. Schedules, entries, flow of play — all handled with calm precision while the rest of us provide “helpful” input from the sidelines.

And if you get hungry, Pevensey Place will be there with their legendary pancakes, keeping everyone fuelled between matches and questionable shot selection.

📍 Himeville
⏰ 9am start
💰 R500 per doubles team
📞 Entries: Donae Keet – 072 449 1807

Expect:
Good tennis (eventually)
Loud commentary (immediately)
Gin-fuelled confidence
And a lot of laughter

All funds go back into the community — because beneath the banter, the Legs of Sani152 are doing exactly what they always do: making things happen properly, while the rest of us take credit.

Bring a partner. Bring energy. Leave your line-call confidence at home.

❤️ COMMUNITY IN ACTION ❤️

Our community has always shown up when it matters most — and right now, we’re rallying together to support Simon Vickers and his family during an incredibly difficult time.

Following the tragic accident involving Simon’s son, Liam, in the United Kingdom, many people have reached out asking how they can help. As Sani Round Table 152, we are helping facilitate a transparent and secure fundraising effort through BackaBuddy (Started by Tash Kelly) so the family can remain close to Liam while he receives treatment in hospital.

Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and go directly toward supporting the family during this time.

🤍 Please consider supporting by clicking the BackaBuddy link below:

🙏 If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this post can also help tremendously.

Thank you for showing the true spirit of community, compassion and support.
