Meet a Member Monday | Sani 152
Meet Michael Beghin (34) — born-and-bred farmer, early riser, and a man who’s never been afraid of a bit of dirt under his nails.
Michael grew up on a beef farm in Hluhluwe, spending his childhood on a cattle ranch and loving every muddy, dusty minute of it. Farming wasn’t just a career choice — it was a way of life from day one.
After school, Michael headed to Saasveld in George, then took his skills abroad, spending five years in the USA driving tractors. Eventually, the pull of home became too strong, and he returned to South Africa, landing a role in Underberg — a move he’s never looked back on. Safe to say, he’s pretty close to his dream job, and the community hasn’t scared him off either 😉
A typical day starts at the crack of dawn and includes a bit of everything: managing people, fixing what’s broken, driving tractors, and looking after animals. If it needs doing, chances are Michael’s doing it.
When he’s not farming, you’ll find him outdoors — hunting, fishing, or enjoying a cold beer around a fire with friends. His wife Cayla and their two dogs, Milo and Miley, are his everything and keep him going day in and day out.
Michael joined Round Table Sani 152 in 2019 after moving to Underberg, seeing it as the obvious way to meet people and become part of the community. In his words, it was the best decision he made. He describes the members as “real legends” — a group that consistently goes above and beyond to help complete strangers and make meaningful change locally.
“It fills the heart knowing you’ve done something good for people who need it.”
We’re grateful for the memories already made with Michael and look forward to many more around the table, the fire, and the community.
