Off-Duty Durban Central Policewoman Found Disoriented in Kranskop After Apparent Collision

An off-duty Warrant Officer from Durban Central SAPS has been found in Kranskop after a missing persons alert was issued.

Warrant Officer Rubika Rambarran, 49, was located inside a white Toyota RunX on the R74 in the early hours of Saturday morning. The vehicle had reportedly been involved in a collision, and she was discovered in a disoriented state.

According to her family, her state-issued firearm and spare magazine are missing. There are also suspicions that another person had been in the passenger seat. Her brother was present at the scene and assisted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers who had circulated the alert.

The family believes Rambarran may have been hijacked. Investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.

Images circulating on social media show significant damage to the front windscreen of the vehicle.

Giyani Police Launch Manhunt After Missing Man Found Murdered in CBD

Police have opened a murder case following the discovery of a missing man’s body in the Giyani Central Business District on Wednesday, 24 May 2026.

The lifeless body of Ntalo Chauke, 28, from Section D1, was discovered during a police patrol near the KFC at Masingita Mall. Officers were approached by a male employee of an engineering company that was installing Telkom fibre cables in the area.

The employee reported that while working with colleagues, they noticed an individual lying in nearby bushes. Upon closer inspection, they found an unknown male victim who did not respond when spoken to.

The workers observed bruises on the victim’s neck. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel were called to the scene and declared Chauke dead upon arrival.

An inquest docket was initially opened, and a post-mortem examination was conducted. The results confirmed that the deceased sustained throat injuries caused by violent action and that the death was not natural.

Following the results, the matter was reported to the local police on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, and a murder case was opened.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of other people at the time of the incident. The suspects are currently unknown.

Police are continuing with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Anyone with information that can assist is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Solly Maluleke, on 073 730 3513, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or visit the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS App.

Police investigations continue.

Ntalo Chauke will be laid to rest on Saturday, 6 June 2026.

Ngizwe Mchunu Files Second Unreserved Apology After Warrant of Arrest Order

Controversial media personality and former radio presenter Ngizwe Mlando Mchunu has submitted a second formal, unconditional apology to the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria, in compliance with a contempt of court order.

The apology, filed electronically on 5 June 2026 under case number 2026-099011, follows an earlier public retraction issued to EFF leader Julius Malema. In the document, Mchunu states he "profusely, unreservedly and/or unconditionally" tenders his apology to the court for conduct that resulted in the application.

"I have carefully considered the ramifications of my conduct, in particular, taking into account the influence I command in the Republic of South Africa, it is my duty as a leader to always exhibit an exemplary conduct, such conduct shall include respecting the decisions of this Honourable Court," the statement reads.

Mchunu further expressed remorse, confirming he consulted his attorneys on the orders handed down by Judges Khumalo and Lukhaimane. He acknowledged that "such Court orders are binding and must be obeyed by all persons to whom they apply."

In the final point, Mchunu declared: "I am remorseful for my contemptuous conduct and I further confirm that... I will refrain from issuing any disparaging statements against the Applicant and I will not display any disdain towards this Honourable Court."

The court had issued a suspended 10-day warrant of arrest, conditional on this unreserved apology being published. No arrest has been reported as of Saturday morning.

The matter stems from Mchunu's repeated defamatory allegations against Malema, which the court previously ruled unlawful.

Mbekezeli Mbokazi Makes History as First South African MLS All-Star Starter Since Doctor Khumalo

South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been named in the starting XI for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, becoming the first South African player to earn the honour since football legend Doctor Khumalo featured in the exhibition match in 1996.

The 20-year-old Chicago Fire centre-back received more fan votes than any other player, securing his place in the league's showpiece event, which will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on 29 July.

Mbokazi's selection caps a remarkable rise for the Hluhluwe-born defender, who joined Chicago Fire from Orlando Pirates in December 2025. Since arriving in Major League Soccer, he has established himself as one of the league's standout young defenders, earning widespread praise for his commanding aerial presence, defensive consistency, and maturity beyond his years.

The Bafana Bafana international will line up alongside some of world football's biggest names, including Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min, and Chicago Fire teammate Hugo Cuypers, when the MLS All-Stars take on the Liga MX All-Stars.

His inclusion marks a significant milestone for South African football and highlights the growing influence of local talent on the global stage.

SIU Yet to Locate Bentley Linked to Tembisa Hospital Scandal

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says it has not yet found the Bentley Continental GT at the centre of its investigation into alleged corruption linked to Tembisa Hospital.

The SIU confirmed that Omar Motor Den admitted selling the vehicle and that the Bentley currently on its showroom floor is not the one under investigation. The dealership and owner Yusuf Omar have until 9 June to provide documents detailing the sale, ownership history, and current whereabouts of the vehicle.

The SIU has obtained Special Tribunal orders authorising the seizure of the Bentley and initiating contempt proceedings against the dealership and Omar. They are expected to appear before the Tribunal on 3 July 2026.

The vehicle forms part of the SIU's probe into alleged corruption and money laundering at Tembisa Hospital, where more than R2 billion is suspected to have been siphoned off between 2014 and 2022. The case highlights ongoing challenges in recovering assets linked to high-profile corruption investigations.
