Rooted in His presence.
Yesterday, we had the joy of welcoming guests from SCAS to in Harmonie for a Quiet Day of reflection, prayer, and rest.

As a ministry committed to serving and discipling people in and through sport, SCAS invests deeply in the lives of athletes, coaches, schools, and communities across South Africa.

Together, we reflected on Romans 14:17:
"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."

In the quiet, we were reminded that God's Kingdom is found not in striving, but in a life rooted in His presence. May the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit continue to sustain and guide each person who joined us.

Time of Reflection: LED BY THE SPIRIT
"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God." – Romans 8:14 (NIV)

1. R E A D – Read this verse slowly several times. If possible, read it out loud.

2. R E F L E C T – Reflect upon the words being read. Listen carefully. Is there one word or phrase which stands out to you? Focus on the words. Repeat them. Allow God to speak to you.

3. R E S P O N D – Respond in prayer to God. Tell Him what you think about what you’ve read. Tell Him how it makes you feel. Tell Him what comforts you and what challenges you. Ask for His help to live out the truths you’ve uncovered.

4. R E S T – Stop. Be still. Stop talking, stop asking and rest. Spend some time in silence sitting with God. Invite the Holy Spirit and allow Him to transform you from within.

Righteousness, peace and joy.
This past weekend, we had the privilege of welcoming Message South Africa to in Harmonie for a time of rest and restoration.

As a ministry deeply engaged in sharing the hope of Jesus with young people and communities across South Africa, their work carries both joy and great responsibility. It was a gift to create space for them to step away from the demands of ministry, slow down and be refreshed in God’s presence.

Our time together was anchored in Romans 14:17-19 [NIV]:
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. ”

In a world that often prioritises constant output, we were reminded again that Kingdom life is marked by peace, joy, and mutual encouragement – and that rest is an essential part of faithful service.

We are grateful for the time shared and pray each guest returns strengthened, renewed, and filled afresh with His peace.

Led by the Spirit
Following Pentecost, we are reminded that God has not left us to navigate life on our own.
Having surrendered to Christ's Lordship, we are invited to live under the daily leading of the Holy Spirit.

This month at in Harmonie, we reflect on what it means to be led by the Spirit. As we learn to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, we discover His faithful presence in the ordinary moments of life and His power at work within us.

The Spirit leads us.
The Spirit guides us.
The Spirit transforms us.
The Spirit empowers us.

May we grow in attentiveness to His voice, openness to His work and courage to follow where He leads.

Time of reflection: REVERENT SURRENDER
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”- Romans 12:1 ESV

R E A D – Read this verse slowly several times. If possible, read it out loud.

R E F L E C T – Reflect upon the words being read. Listen carefully. Is there one word or phrase which stands out to you? Focus on the words. Repeat them. Allow God to speak to you.

Living in faithful obedience.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Because Christ has overcome, we are invited to live with confidence. Not striving, but faithfully following under His Lordship.

How does Christ’s victory influence how you live and lead?
Where is God calling you to deeper obedience?
What does faithful living look like in your current context?

STORY OF CHANGE: Maria Smit
“I was deeply touched in so many ways. The word ‘rest’ completely took on a new meaning. Especially emotional rest. Rest is not an empty action; it fills one up, it restores. The verbs I took from Jeremiah 16:6 helped me to evaluate how I follow Jesus.

The carefully designed rooms and prayer garden add to a restoring atmosphere. When walking through the garden, you experience what Adam and Eve must have experienced when God walked with them in the garden of Eden. Words of thanks cannot describe the joy in my heart due to what I experienced at in Harmonie.”

A response of gratitude.
“Who then will condemn us? No one – for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” – Romans 8:34

Our surrender is a response to Christ’s finished work. He has given Himself for us, and continues to plead on our behalf with the Father.

How often do you reflect on what Christ has done for you?
How will gratitude shape your daily walk with God?
What would it look like to respond more intentionally to His grace?

The Lord will guide, restore and strengthen you.
In the midst of demanding seasons of caring for others, our Rest & Restoration Retreat for Healthcare Workers this past weekend created space to pause, breathe deeply and be renewed in God’s presence. Through times of rest, reflection, prayer and community, we were reminded that the Lord not only sustains His people, but restores and strengthens them.

Our time together was anchored in the promise in Isaiah 58:11-12 (NIV):
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

May each guest who attended continue to experience God’s refreshing, strengthening, and restoring presence as they faithfully serve others each day.

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit…” – Acts 2:4 ESV

Today, on Pentecost Sunday, we remember the gift of the Holy Spirit – God’s presence with us, leading us into lives that honour Christ as Lord.

The Spirit forms in us a life of obedience, gratitude, and surrender – enabling us to live under Christ’s authority with faithfulness and gratitude.

We are not left to follow Him in our own strength. We are guided, shaped, and empowered through His Spirit.
