A mokoro is more than a traditional canoe, it is a beautiful symbol of Botswanaโs heritage and a timeless way of moving through the waterways of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
For generations, local communities used the mokoro to travel, fish, carry goods and move gently through the Deltaโs shallow channels. Traditionally carved from large tree trunks, today many mokoro are made from fibreglass to help protect Botswanaโs precious trees and support conservation. Skilled polers stand at the back and guide the mokoro with a long pole, allowing guests to glide quietly through reeds, water lilies and mirror-like lagoons.
