Recently, John Moody and Lorene Richards gave a presentation to the Sunrise Optimist Club on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The presentation, “Moody Garden: Past, Present, and Future,” highlighted the garden’s history, current activities, and exciting opportunities for community partnerships.
We were very pleased with the enthusiastic response and the interest shown in several of our proposed projects. We look forward to another fun, exciting and successful year ahead. Please check back for more updates on future developments on project that are coming to the Moody Garden in the near future!

Want to start a garden, but not sure what to plant? Here are some things to try!

October doesn’t automatically mean the planting season is over. 🍂🌱 In a lot of gardens, it’s actually a really useful month for getting a head start on cooler-weather crops.
🧄 Garlic is one of my favorite things to plant in fall because it can settle in before winter and then take off again in spring.
🥬 In milder areas, leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, and arugula often appreciate cooler temperatures far more than summer heat.
🌱 Radishes are another good quick crop when conditions are cool enough, especially if there’s still time before hard freezes.
🌾 If a bed is going to sit empty, I’d rather cover it than leave bare soil exposed all winter. A cover crop can help protect the surface and add organic matter later.
The big thing I check first is my local frost timing. October gardening can look completely different depending on your USDA zone.

It's time to plant those winter veggies!

Still waiting for spring to start vegetables in your Arizona yard? Here the weeks before Halloween are the real planting window, and what goes in now turns into fresh greens, sweet peas, and crunchy carrots you're picking all winter on very little water. Wait until spring, and the heat shows up before most of these crops ever hit their stride.

NOW HIRING: Guest Services Representative – Seasonal/Temporary

Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area is seeking a Guest Services Representative to join our team at the Colorado River State Historic Park and/or Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park.

Season: October 2026 – May 2027
Starting Pay: $16.00/hour
Schedule: 16–40 hours per week
Location: Yuma, Arizona

Responsibilities include:
• Welcoming and assisting park visitors
• Processing Park admissions and gift shop sales
• Providing information about park history and exhibits
• Assisting with special events and programs
• Supporting cleaning, landscaping and basic maintenance
• Working some evenings, weekends and holidays

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required
• Must be at least 19 years old
• Valid driver’s license required
• Must pass a background check
• Must be available to work weekends, holidays and some evenings
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

Customer service, retail, hospitality, event, cash-handling or maintenance experience is preferred.
