“ANGELS AMONG US” who we serve

That’s exactly what I felt while touring Yuma’s only Safe House for those who are abused in our community.
Men and women in our community have a safe place to go, along with their children and pets.

The only Safe House in our community that houses those who are abused.

It’s unbelievable—the peace and love that comes from those serving others in our community is palpable when you walk in.
The men and women who arrive at the Safe House door are not only housed; they receive counseling, legal and medical assistance, “virtual rooms for court appearances so they don’t have to appear in public,” a beautiful laundry facility with necessary supplies, emergency clothing and shoes (“some arrive literally with only the clothes on their back”), a full kitchen with a pantry, plenty of space for children to play where pets are welcome, and a safe place to lay their heads and sleep at night.

When residents enter, they go through an intake process to prepare them to understand what’s available and assess their needs.
The journey begins, and they can take up to four months to work through their needs and find a safe place to start over.
If they want to start anew in our community, they get help finding a place to live, a job, and a new, safe home. Once ready for this transition, counselors assist in finding a new home and locating necessary items such as furniture, appliances and other needs to start a new home. If they want to relocate, help is provided for transportation and other needs.

If you’ve been touched by abuse in your family like ours was, you can’t walk into this place without feeling it’s perfect for someone experiencing abuse.
Walking through the facility yesterday, I met some residents and handed out food certificates so they could buy something special, courtesy of Hands Extended. The smiles on their faces were precious, and you could tell they were already thinking about something special to get.
It was an honor to tour the facility and know our help is being used wisely.

Now that the shop has sold and we’re getting ready to open the little mini one this is what my living room looks like.
We’re doing the summer bags for the homeless and they’re everywhere you can see what’s in them in the last package. They still need water and bottles which are on the way..

TRAVEL SIZE HYGIENE ITEMS:
Soap
Toothpaste
Toothbrush
Deodorant

And as always, you can be creative and add special items that we can place in the bags…

Thought we’d let you see how my home is becoming a workshop.
Even though we’re not open yet, we’re very busy bees. If you’ve got some time in your schedule to help out, we’d love it. We’re mostly working on Clothing and Jewerly right now.

I just love this community Hearts Enpowring the Poor has donated 75 water bottles & 36 folding umbrellas have also been donated already.

Way to go to the greater Hands Extended community.

It’s time to do our annual summer project for the homeless and even though we’re not at the shop anymore, we’re gonna try to pull this off anyway while we are preparing the new location.
This year the bags will contain:
Umbrellas
Water
Thermos type drinking cups

WHATS GOING ON…
Hands Extended Thrift Store has officially closed & reopened under new ownership as Whimsy Gifts Thrift Store.

A little over 6 years ago Hands Extended purchased the shop for $320,000.00 and sold it for $800,000.00. “for more information regarding the sale you can IM me.”

$600,000.00 of the proceeds from the sale are going to be used for educational scholarships. Stay tuned as we put this into place, by following “H.E. Scholarship Program” here on Facebook

$100,000.00 has been set up as an interest bearing loan @ 5% interest over the next 7 years to assist in the education ministry in Mexico. “Hands Extended Tuition Program”

$100,000.00 is being used to set up the H.E. Bee’s Knees Boutique & the community garden.

Sherry Whitworth is providing the area for the garden and the space for the Bee’s Knees shop at no charge so more of what you give and purchase will go directly to the garden and the local woman to woman ministry the Bee’s Knees shop will be supporting.
