The rain did not stop us!

UCOM hosted its annual Community Carnival last night with over 100 attendees! Community members came together to play games, win raffle prizes, enjoy food, and explore local resource tables.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a fun and memorable event despite the weather!

We want to give a BIG thank you to our community partners who helped make this possible. We could not have done it without you!

Here at UCOM, we are opening new doors!

A huge thank you to Alejandro and the team at A&A Pro Paint for generously volunteering your time and talent to paint our doors and archway.

We are always striving to create a welcoming space for our neighbors, and when community members step in to support that mission, we can accomplish so much together. Thank you for helping make our space feel even more like home!

We have wrapped up our VITA tax program for 2026!

This year, 36 Calvin University students provided assistance to our neighbors. Together, they processed 920 tax returns here at UCOM, making this our biggest year yet. That’s $820,000 back in the pockets of our community members!

Our deepest gratitude goes to Scott Rush for spending countless evenings lending his time and guiding students to make this possible for our community year after year. We couldn't do it without you!

What a great day for Walking Club!

Every Thursday at 10 AM, community members gather here at UCOM for a walk filled with movement, connection, and community. We love seeing familiar faces each week, and welcoming new ones too!

As part of our Culture of Health program, Walking Club is a great way to stay active, socialize, and build meaningful connections in our community.

Yesterday, UCOM hosted an open house for Mental Health Action Day!

Each table featured a curated station designed to promote mindfulness and mental health support. Our neighbors enjoyed a variety of activities, including putting together thoughtful puzzles, journaling their worries, and nestling into our quiet meditation room.

This day provided an opportunity for neighbors to learn, share, and support one another in maintaining their mental well-being. We are grateful to our neighbors for showing up, and helping build a stronger, more connected community.

We’re still feeling incredibly grateful after Saturday’s Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and the hard work of so many volunteers and partners, UCOM received 362 banana boxes full of food from this year’s drive — nearly 100 more boxes than last year.

Thank you to the letter carriers who spent the day collecting donations throughout the community, the Post Office teams who helped coordinate the effort, and the volunteers who gave their time to help unload, sort, pack, and organize thousands of pounds of food.

And most importantly, thank you to everyone who left food by their mailbox to support neighbors in our community.

This food will make a real difference for families across our service area in the weeks and months ahead. We’re continually inspired by the generosity of this community and what can happen when people come together to care for one another.

Thank you for helping keep our shelves stocked and our neighbors supported.

Hunger doesn’t take a season off.

For many families, this time of year can be especially challenging as school meal programs pause and household budgets are stretched thin.

That’s why the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 9 matters.

By placing non-perishable food items by your mailbox, you’re helping UCOM ensure neighbors have access to healthy food in a way that respects their dignity.

It’s simple. It’s local. And it makes a real impact.

The Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is coming up on Saturday, May 9, and it’s one of the easiest ways to support our neighbors right from home.

Just leave non-perishable food items by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will pick them up and deliver them to local pantries like UCOM.

As we head into the summer months, donations tend to slow down while need continues to grow. Your support helps keep our shelves stocked with healthy food for families across our community.

Every can, every box, every bag makes a difference.

One month into tax season, and we’re already seeing the impact of this work in a big way.

In just 8 sessions, 196 neighbors have come through UCOM’s Tax Assistance program to file their returns with support from our incredible volunteers. Behind the scenes, 40 volunteers have given a combined 545 hours of their time to make this possible.

That’s 545 hours of sitting alongside neighbors, answering questions, navigating complex systems, and helping ensure that families receive the refunds and credits they’ve earned.

For many of the people we serve, this is more than just filing taxes. It’s the difference between catching up on bills, keeping up with rent, or putting food on the table.

We’re so grateful for the volunteers who make this program possible and for the community that continues to support this work. There’s still more to come this season, and we’re just getting started.
