Licking County Courthouse Lighting The annual lighting of the Courthouse is the official start of the Christmas season in Licking County

The annual holiday lighting of the Courthouse is the official start of the Christmas season in Licking County. This year will mark the 73rd consecutive lighting, continuing a tradition that began in 1949. Generations of local families return every season for the annual lighting ceremony and to enjoy the warm glow of the holiday decorated Courthouse. Sponsored by the Licking County Courthouse Ligh

ting Committee. They oversee the installation, wiring and decorating of the Courthouse and the surrounding Courthouse Park. The Committee is continuing their efforts in the expensive conversion of the decorations and stringers from incandescent to more energy efficient longer lasting LED lights. Community contributions fund the LED upgrading of the bulbs, replacement of worn equipment and the removal of the decorations in January. The Lighting Committee organize the traditional arrival of Santa and a musical program on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving.

We had such a wonderful time kicking off the holiday season at our 77th Annual Christmas Courthouse Lighting! ✨

From the sing-along to Santa’s big arrival, the whole evening reminded us why this Licking County tradition is so special. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us—your energy and joy made the night truly magical.

🎄✨ It’s tiiiiimmmeee! The holiday season officially kicks off TONIGHT at the 77th Annual Christmas Courthouse Lighting!

📍 Courthouse Square, Downtown Newark
⏰ Festivities begin at 6:15 PM (arrive early for parking!)

Enjoy a holiday sing-along, live music from Barefoot McCoy, a salute to the Newark Rodders Car Club Inc., and of course—Santa’s grand arrival just before 7 PM to light our beloved Courthouse! 🎅

Come downtown early to explore the Canal Market District Holiday Bazaar from 3–6:30 PM, featuring 40 local vendors, crafts, décor, food trucks, and a gorgeous Christmas tree photo op.

After the lighting, kids can visit Santa at the TrueCore Federal Credit Union downtown branch. The Elves in Action will also be on the Square kicking off their annual food drive for the Food Pantry Network of Licking County.

The Momentum Refresh mobile restroom will be available thanks to the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
