Flocking to a Worthington city park near you!
Sheep Pastures to Progress has officially arrived on the Village Green - and it's been worth the wait. As part of America's 250th anniversary celebrations, 29 Worthington community organizations, artists, schools, and cultural groups each designed a painted sheep silhouette that reflects their own identity and spirit, turning Worthington into a walkable gallery that connects our agricultural roots to the vibrant community we are today.
Why sheep? In 1812, Worthington founder James Kilbourn imported 103 Merino sheep to the Village Green. By 1850, Sharon Township was home to more than 2,700 sheep - far outnumbering its roughly 1,000 human residents. That same Village Green is where our story begins again.
From now through October, the flock will travel throughout Worthington's parks, business districts, and civic spaces. Scan the QR code on any sheep for historic narratives, info on the organization, and the story behind each sculpture - curated by the Worthington Historical Society and Experience Worthington.
