3 in a row! Once again - third time in under two weeks - Maryland Wing's Group 5 answers the call from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center to locate a personal locator beacon (PLB). This time the PLB was in Talbot County and members of the Easton Composite Squadron and Group 5 headquarters conducted a search, found the PLB in a nearby yacht club, connected with the owner, and deactivated the PLB. Team members were awarded a non-stress find ribbon for the mission. Great work - again - by Group 5!

For the second time inside of a week, squadrons from Maryland Wing's Group 5 responded to an AFRCC call for an active Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) signal, this time in Eastport, MD, in the vicinity of Annapolis.

On June 1, Col. Mary S. Feik Composite Squadron accepted the mission with 2 senior members and 2 GTM3-rated cadets; three senior members from Easton Composite and Apollo 1 Senior squadrons responded as well. The search indicated that a strong PLB signal originated in a charter boat marina. The team encountered two crew members of one boat moored nearby who assisted us by contacting the owner/operator of the marina; we were subsequently granted permission for the team to board/search the charter vessels. The team ultimately found the PLB aboard one of the vessels and successfully deactivated it.

Congratulations on a FIND ribbon to Capt. Stephen Shamblen, 1st Lt. Robert Carhart, Cadet 2d Lt. Eliman Jawara, Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Benjamin Kilbourne of the Col. Mary S. Feik Composite Squadron, as well as Capt. Joe Dorffner and SSgt Rosie Dorffner of Apollo 1 Senior Squadron, and Capt. David Putman of Easton Composite Squadron. As before, thanks to Lt Col Mike Zabetakis, incident commander! Outstanding team effort!

Maryland Wing responded to the call yesterday when the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center notified us of an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) signal in Worcester County. The Wicomico Composite Squadron quickly took the mission with 6 ground team members who narrowed the signal to an unoccupied house. After gaining permission from the owner, the team entered the property, found the EPIRB in the dumpster outside the house and deactivated it. Congratulations on a FIND ribbon to Maj. Zack Mitchell, 1st Lt. James Turner, Cadet 2nd Lts. Stosh Willey and Levi Mitchell, and Cadet Chief Master Sgts. Timothy Turner and Liam Mitchell. Outstanding effort!

Three Maryland Wing cadets were recently presented the Gen. Ira C. Eaker Award after completing Phase IV of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and earning the grade of Cadet Lt Col. The Eaker Award marks the completion of all 16 achievements in the CAP Cadet Program and is earned by fewer than 2% of cadets nationwide.
