Dance is art in motion and at Sanctuary Christian Arts Center, we have been fortunate to have so many dancers come and perform. This year, we are happy to welcome back Myrhanda McDaniels to share her artistic motivations and journey.

McDaniels is a Baltimore based artist, educator and advocate. She studied Dance Education at The University of the Arts Philadelphia and has a Graduate Certificate in Special Education from the University of Maryland College Park. She has danced with many companies in Baltimore's theater and dance world. She's performed in Memphis the Musical, Black Nativity and SNAPSHOTS and is part of the Infinite Grace Dance Ministry.

We know that words have powers and at Sanctuary Christian Arts Center, we love to feature the written word and the spoken word. For this year's spoken word, we will be hearing from Minister Stephanie Powell.

Powell is a Baltimore based dance educator who uses dance and the word to tell stories that need to be heard. She studied dance at Goucher College and got a Master's in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University before going on to found her own dance school, Baltimore Dance Tech. Throughout the years, she has trained many dancers who have go on to work with ensembles and companies from around the world. She has also studied the word of God at the Baltimore School of the Bible and minsters regularly.

We are excited to hear what she has to about the need for learning this Sunday, September 6, at 3pm.

Music has always been a part of our Sunday Service here are Sanctuary and we love giving musicians a chance to share their performance art. That's why we're excited to have Brent Birckhead join us for our 27th Anniversary.

Birckhead is a Maryland based artist who studied at Howard University and now teaches saxophone at the Baltimore School for the Arts and Morgan State University. His music revolves around Jazz as he loves taking risks with his music and improvising during his performances. He has been on stage with artists like Lauryn Hill and George Duke and he released his first album in 2019 and his second in 2024.

With his music, he strives to make his own mark in the jazz world and we look forward to hearing him play this Sunday, September 6 at 3pm.

As we approach our 27th Church Anniversary, we want to introduce you to the artists who will be joining us this year and we're going to start with our visual artist, Larry "Poncho" Brown.

Poncho was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and has received national acclaim. He started his artistic journey at 17 by creating signs before studying graphic design and photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He used his degree to further enhance his pieces to capture Afrocentric themes, rhythm and movement in them. His work has been featured in TV Shows like "A Different World" and "The Wire" and movies like "Soulfood". It also hangs in places like Coppin State University, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and Sanctuary Christian Arts Center.
