It’s always hard saying good bye. In rescue we have to say it too often. Snake Hissken came to one of our colonies about a year ago. He had severe trauma to his head but was still sweet and loving. For the past few months he had been battling renal failure but was still his normal snake self. He became a part of our family at our misfit ranch from the moment he got here. Today his little life but big personality came to an end. He will be missed but never forgotten. We love you snake

We got a message that this little baby needed help. He was born outside and was being cared for but his caregivers knew he couldn't live outside. We aren't a kitten rescue but we love the wonky ferals........

Welcome to JOCR Shane McPatrick! Shane is named after one of our very favorite cats ever. Our dear friend Mary Jo had a cat named Sean Patrick. Sean was the absolute best boy and had severe CH (cerebellar hypoplasia). He passed last year. Sean Patrick was one of a kind. We were heartbroken when he passed. So we decided to name Shane with a nod to Mary Jo's sweet Sean Patrick.

Shane appears to have severe CH as well. Shane will be assessed by our vet in the next couple of weeks. We spoke with the vet and with Shane being feral and most likely having CH, we want him to have time to adjust so he calms down a bit. This will give the vet a better assessment of his severity.

❤️🐾 RIDGE UPDATE 🐾❤️

First and foremost, THANK YOU.

Because of the incredible kindness and generosity of our supporters, Ridge underwent his emergency double eye enucleation surgery and came through the procedure successfully. We cannot express how grateful we are to everyone who donated, shared his story, sent prayers, and helped us get him the care he so desperately needed. And of course to the amazing staff at Garden Grove Animal Hospital for their unyielding support and care for animals in need.

In case you missed it: Just a few weeks ago, Ridge arrived in our care suffering from devastating infections in both eyes. Despite intensive medical treatment, the damage was too severe to save his vision, and surgery became his only chance at a life free from constant pain.

Today, for the first time in a long time, Ridge is no longer carrying the burden of those infected, painful eyes.

While this is a huge victory, Ridge’s journey is far from over.

He still has a long road of healing ahead of him. Over the coming weeks, he will require continued veterinary care, medications, follow-up appointments, and plenty of love and support as he recovers and learns to navigate the world without sight. Like many rescue animals, his medical expenses did not end with surgery day.

The cost of Ridge’s care has been significant, and any continued donations would be deeply appreciated as we work to provide everything he needs during his recovery.

💔 RIDGE NEEDS YOUR HELP 💔

This tiny kitten is Ridge.

A few weeks ago, Ridge was handed to one of our rescue team (Karl Starkey) in a box. No history. No explanation. Just a helpless baby suffering from one of the most severe eye infections we have ever seen.

His eyes were already catastrophically damaged by the time he came into our care. Since then, we have been fighting for him every day with antibiotics, pain medication, and intensive supportive care. Despite our efforts, the infection has caused severe glaucoma, and Ridge is living with constant pain.

Because Ridge weighs less than 2 pounds, surgery has been postponed as long as safely possible. Anesthesia is much riskier for kittens this small, and we desperately wanted to give him more time to grow.

Unfortunately, Ridge no longer has that time.

His veterinary team has determined that he needs an emergency double eye enucleation (removal of both eyes) this week. The infection and pressure have reached a point where delaying surgery any longer would only prolong his suffering.

No kitten should have to endure this kind of pain.

The good news is that cats are incredibly resilient. Once Ridge recovers from surgery, he will finally be free from the constant agony he has known for much of his short life. Blind cats can live amazing, happy, and fulfilling lives—and we are committed to making sure Ridge gets that chance.

The surgery is expected to cost approximately $1,200, and we are asking our community to help us give Ridge the future he deserves.

**UPDATE ON JEFF**

THE ABSCESS IS HEALED!!!! NO surgery will be necessary!!!!

Jeff is headed to the vet today sporting his favorite Lightning jersey (if you have to wear a shirt you might as well be stylin). Jeff is having another ultrasound of his liver today to see of the abscess has healed. He needs this to heal. Jeff takes meds for his allergies and with the liver abscess he can't take them. This makes Jeff very itchy. He pulls his hair out of his back if he doesn't wear a shirt. Please send some prayers, thoughts and good vibes for Jeff. His appointment is this afternoon.

We get so many messages asking us to take cats or kittens. Most of the time we let them know we can't and try to provide some resources for them to follow up on for help. We have been asked "why do you get donations then?" Well..

In addition to the community cats we take care of, we also have rescue cats at home. We take in ones that can no longer live in their colonies. We bring home the handicapped, the sick or the ones that have aged to the point where they need care until they cross the bridge..

These are a few at the Misfit Ranch...

*Mike - blind because both eyes ruptured and had to be removed

*Snake - trauma to his face leaving one eye gone and jaw shifted over. Renal failure

*Abby - back legs chewed off when she was a kitten (she was an owner surrender)

*Figo - rear leg partially ripped off at 5 weeks old

*Tunie - cerebellar hypoplasia and someone or something cut the tops of her ears off

*Jeff - worst environmental allergies his dermatologist has ever seen. Had to have teeth removed

*Panjo - hit by a car and drug down the street. Paralyzed in his back end

*Katie - front leg amputated after getting caught in fence line

*Ridge - blind in both eyes from eyes ruptured

*Walter - blind. Dumped at animal control when his owner died. AC reached out and we took him.

*Crawford - terminal mammary cancer

*Nellie Belle - genetic disorder so she doesn't grow hair

And the list goes on....

This is why we can't take your cat or kittens. We take the wonky ones that need a place to go. This is why we ask for donations. Ongoing medical needs. Food to feed them. Flea meds. Litter. Puppy pads.

We do have some really great adult cats that would love a family of their own. But, the Misfit Ranch will be their safe haven until their family comes or until they cross the bridge.

Thank you to all who support us. Its tiresome, and costly and overwhelming some days. But we will keep going. Together, with your help, we make a difference.
