Florida Sport Horse Club Incorporated as a non-profit in 1988, we are dedicated to trail riding and the preservation of the many ridings areas in Florida. Jude's.

Who we are: The Florida Sport Horse Club is dedicated to trail riding and the preservation of the many riding areas in central Florida. We ride every weekend and have many barbecues and campouts throughout year. We're family oriented and open to all breeds of horses. We are based primarily in Polk County, but have members from all over the state. We have been incorporated as a non-profit organization since 1988. What we do: While our passion is trail riding, we also contribute to our community. Among other projects, we have assisted in placing water lines for the Lake Louisa equestrian campground and SWFWMD’s Ashley campground. We have cleared trails in many areas. The picnic tables in the equestrian parking areas of Tenoroc and Marshall Hampton Reserve were purchased and are maintained by club members. We have presented our horses at local events such as Circle B Bar’s “Water, Wings & Wild Things,” Tenoroc’s fishing tournaments, “Get To Know C**t Creek,” and Polk City’s Library Summer Program. We have participated in fundraising efforts for St. Jude’s and other groups, and donated money to equine rescues and homeless programs such as Lakeland’s Talbot House. Where we are: Most members are in Polk County, although we have a few from Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties. There are monthly business meetings (location varies depending on the season) with the exception of August (our annual membership gathering and BBQ) and Christmas (holiday party). We also hold monthly lunch "dine-arounds," social gatherings at local restaurants. Our members have proudly ridden with other organizations on the Osceola Wagon & Trail ride, The Cracker Trail ride, The National Trail ride and in fund raisers for Shriners and St. Contacts:

Thanks Nancy Slater Natural Horsemanship and the small but mighty group of participants at the clinic end of September near Lake Wales, Florida.

We enjoyed groundwork time, and coffee time, and chatting time, and riding time, and going out for dinner time.

I even snuck in a run the in the Conservation Area next to lake Kissimmee.

And I always learn something when visiting Nancy. This time it was about the “1’s and 3’s” and how helpful they can be when building confidence around obstacles.

Working on “1’s and 3’s” is the idea that when introducing a bridge or tarp or pedestal or log, first work on having the communication to be able to split the front feet, and split the hind feet on the obstacle or over it. If you have the communication and confidence to do that, the whole thing probably won’t be that hard.

It’s a bit like jumping can be made more difficult by going bigger and faster, but we can also challenger ourselves by having angles, or skinnies, or adding strides, or taking out strides, or adding in transitions.

Thanks Nancy!

Yesterday was the PERFECT day to go riding! After a long, hot summer the best riding weather of the year has arrived. Sidney Dover Conservation Park is a lovely 7.5 mile trail, mostly shaded and (at least yesterday) had no bugs. Our 5 riders had a wonderful time. Thanks to our photographers of the day Mike Charron and Lori Shank.
