Girls on the Run of Central Iowa

Girls on the Run of Central Iowa Girls on the Run of Central Iowa is a program of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.

We inspire participants of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Girls on the Runยฎ is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, we teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running

games. The 24-lesson curriculum includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. Important social, psychological, and physical skills and abilities are developed and reinforced throughout the program. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a 5k running event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. The resultโ€”making the seemingly impossible, possible, and teaching girls that they can.

Happy Global Running Day! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฉต

Weโ€™re excited to enjoy this day of movement with our friends at , who have something extra-special to celebrate this year.

In 1976, Sally Edwards and Elizabeth Jansen opened the first Fleet Feet in Sacramento, California, at a time when specialty running stores were rare, especially women-owned ones. Fifty years later, Fleet Feet continues to bring people together through movement. Join the celebration today at The Big Run, Fleet Feetโ€™s signature Global Running Day event, happening in communities across the country: https://bit.ly/4a5uYAC

Today, we pause to remember and honor the service members who gave their lives for our country. Their courage and sacrifice continue to shape our nation and the values that we carry forward in our communities. We also recognize the families and loved ones who carry their legacy forward with strength and pride. This Memorial Day, we remember, reflect, and honor those who gave everything.
