I don’t know why these perfect little rescues haven’t been scooped up yet! We need to find their forever homes so we can help more! ❤️❤️

Momma Pollen is one of the best momma cats we have ever had. She is affectionate, loving, trusting, and not scared of new people at all. Everyone is her friend. She wants humans all the time. She is now kitten-less so it is her turn at a home!

Happy is a spunky energetic girl. She loves to play, jump, and fly through the air with excitement. She is happy to be alive and making up for lost time as a sick baby. She would do great with other kitties!

Sneezy is an adorable cute and unique sweetheart. She has a little pointy side profile that is so different. She is an excellent balance of play/energy, and cuddler!

Chickweed is a great girl with lots of stripes! She has come so far personality wise from her days on the streets and loves to be held and purrs away. She enjoys playing with other kitties and does adorable bunny hops!

Henbit is gorgeous!! All her pretty calico colors! She is our underdog being more scared at first leading others to be chosen over her. She’s nervous around new people and will need a home who understands that and lets her open up at her own pace. With lots of love and patience, she will be just fine. She loves belly tickles while laying in her bed.

Those Shy & Skittish Kittens

We recently assisted an elderly gentleman at a site where he was feeding 4 adults and three 8 week old kittens. The kittens lived in a shed attached to his house and the adults ate on his back porch. Traps were delivered to the site about a week before his appointment to get the adults altered and although he tried to follow instructions to acclimate the cats and kittens to the traps he struggled with the process. So, when trapping day came it was a bit of a challenge.

After six hours the four adults were trapped but even though there was a trap set in the shed where the kittens hung out, we didn’t get a nibble. And we had tuna and warm KFC thinking they wouldn’t be able to resist. By the time the adults were trapped the kittens were even more spooked. So, we took the adults, told the gentleman not to put out any food for the kittens, and promised to return the next morning.

Again, traps were set in and around the shed. And of course, we immediately got a ‘bonus’ adult. After two hours we were about ready to give up on the kittens for the day and then one went it the trap! Now, how to get the other two? Using one kitten as bait to catch the siblings often works, so a trap was butted up against the trap with the kitten and covered to make a tunnel, and sure enough kitten #2 was caught. Would this work to get kitten #3? We absolutely didn’t want to leave one behind. Another trap was set and butted up against one of the traps with a kitten and in a few minutes we had kitten #3 as well!

Now all three are waiting for a foster home where they can be socialized for adoption. And the adults have been altered, vaccinated, and returned to their home.

So, if you are working to trap feral kittens and you can get one of them, using that one as bait for the others can work.

If you have found and rescued kittens, you may be wondering how to catch the mom cat. 🤔 It is so important to make that effort!

Please don't just scoop up the kittens and move on. 🚫 Leaving the mother cat behind often means she will face the exact same situation again in just a few short months, producing another litter and continuing the cycle.

If kittens are around, there's a very good chance mom is nearby, even if you haven't seen her. It is actually uncommon for an entire litter of kittens to be abandoned.

So how do you find her❓

Place the kittens in a carrier or trap at the location where they were found. Then set a baited trap in front of the carrier and cover both with a sheet or blanket to create a little "tunnel" leading straight to her babies.

And here's the important part—go away.

Mama cat is much less likely to return if a scary human is standing nearby watching. Let the kittens and the trap do the work for you. Go inside and monitor from a window. If you're in a public location, park nearby where you can still keep an eye on the trap from your vehicle. *** Never leave the trap unattended!

A common Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) question: What if there's other wildlife around on trapping day?

Ideally, you'll avoid trapping anything but cats. This is often easier if you trap during the day, as most wildlife is nocturnal. Birds, on the other hand, are active during daytime hours. If birds are your problem animal, trap after dusk when they’ve settled down and gone to sleep.

Another tactic is to distract wildlife by setting out food that they like a lot but cats aren’t interested in a short distance from the traps. A few suggestions:

🍞 Raccoons like apples, marshmallows, corn and bread.
🍌 Opossums like acorns, tomatoes, apples and bananas.
🍎 Skunks like nuts, bananas, apples and bread.
🌽 Chickens love cracked corn.

If you do accidentally trap a wild animal, don't panic. Here are some tips on how to handle different situations.
What to do if you trap a raccoon 🦝
While they’re typically gentle, keep in mind that raccoons can carry rabies and have very sharp claws, so stay out of scratching range and use bite- or scratch-proof gloves if you can.
One person can draw the attention of the raccoon at the front end of the trap while another person quickly opens the rear door. Then wait for him to exit.
If you can do it safely, insert a trap divider from above to create some separation between the rear door and the raccoon.
Tru-Catch gravity traps can be gently rolled over to open the doors, but keep your foot a healthy distance away from the raccoon! If you can, use a broomstick or similar object to push the trap upside-down.
What to do if you trap a skunk 🦨
If the skunk stomps her front feet, run! This is a warning that she’s about to spray. Other warning signs include growling, spitting or twisting her body so her front and back ends are both facing you at the same time.
Approach a trapped skunk from behind. They have poor vision and can only see about ten feet in front of them.
Throw a heavy blanket over the trap from several feet away to prevent being hit by any spray.
Once covered, slowly and quietly approach the trap to open the rear door, then back away.
What to do if you trap an opossum 🐾
Opossums are very gentle, non-aggressive animals. Still, avoid exposing yourself to possible scratches or bites.
Their vision is weak in bright daylight, so during the day, it’s usually easy to open the rear door without drawing their attention. At night, be more careful.
If you release them in the daytime, let them go next to a tree or in a wooded area so they can easily climb to safety without searching around.
Avoid placing traps near possible opossum dens like wood piles, brush or pallets.
If you’re working at night and there’s an outlet nearby, you can try hanging Christmas lights in the trapping area to keep opossums away. They won’t like the lights.

​Every single summer, rescues and shelters brace themselves for "Kitten Season." But this year, the wave didn’t just hit us - it overwhelmed us. We are at an absolute breaking point. Fosters are completely maxed out, shelters are at double capacity, resources are depleted, and volunteers are running on fumes and heartbreak.

​When we beg you to fix your pets, we hear the same refrains:
​"But I want my kids to experience the miracle of birth."
​"I'll just find good homes for the kittens myself."
​"My cat stays indoors anyway, it’s fine."

​The Harsh Reality: You Are Not an Island
​Please, stop and look at the bigger picture. Your cat and their potential litter do not exist in a vacuum. You might think, "It’s just four or five kittens, what’s the big deal?"
​The big deal is that you are one of tens of thousands of people saying the exact same thing right now.

Early morning releases are my favorite. These sweet babies were so thankful to be home. Obviously these are not your typical feral cats. These are what we call community cats. This trio is part of a bigger colony on this road. 3 down several more to go 😻

A Barrow County school bus driver stopped traffic to save a turtle today… and now people across Georgia are trying to figure out who this kindhearted man is. ❤️🐢

Sandice Thrasher says she was already having one of those overwhelming days…

Worried about one of her dogs, dealing with car trouble, juggling work, exhausted and stressed while trying to keep everything moving.

Then traffic suddenly came to a stop behind Barrow County school bus #1703.

There were no homes nearby. No children crossing. Just a long line of confused drivers waiting to see what was going on.

And then they saw it.

A giant turtle slowly trying to cross the road while the bus driver, along with two women who had pulled over to help, carefully guided him safely across.

Instead of frustration, people started smiling and cheering them on.

One driver even waved the turtle across like he was the guest of honor 😂😂

Sandice said the moment completely changed her day… and everyone in that like was smiling.

So if you know the driver of Bus #1703 in Barrow County, let him know people noticed what he did today.

This little moment of compassion made a difference for a lot of people who saw it. ❤️

Number 55!
This sweet baby doesn’t realize it yet, but she is going to be living a healthier and happier life.  She is the 55th cat trapped from a location with a large colony we started working in March.  The person feeding the cats recently passed away and neighbors and church members reached out for help,and we are so very thankful they did! 20 years of cats inbreeding and kittens dying has come to an end for this colony. This has been a huge project but it has come with a major rewards. Watching these cats transform into happier cats makes it worth the effort. Only 3 more left to catch 💪
