Congratulations to our new chair Lisa Newbern!

In her new role as Chair, she is excited to continue the work with Nick Perry, former chair and now Vice Chair. With so much change happening today in disability policy and society itself, Newbern is encouraging individuals and families across the state to get familiar with the Council and apply to become a member.

Urgent News on HCBS Funding!

There is currently debate in Washington D.C. about whether or not to cut the critical Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) dollars proposed in President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal and included in the recently introduced Better Care Better Jobs Act. The current proposal would invest 400 billion dollars into HCBS, which would drastically improve the availability and quality of HCBS in Georgia. These funds could be used to reduce or end our over 7,000 person Medicaid waiver waitlist in Georgia, address our direct support professional workforce shortage and crisis, and improve our HCBS system here in Georgia.

Unfortunately, there is talk that this proposal could be drastically cut to 150 billion (a more than 50% cut!), and our Senators need to hear from you TODAY! Please take this opportunity to contact both Senator Ossoff and Senator Warnock’s office and let them know what the 400-billion-dollar HCBS investment would mean to you and your community!

Call Senator Ossoff’s office at 202-224-3521.

Call Senator Warnock’s office at 202-224-3643.

Great checklist... created for use with young children, but probably a good tool for older kids too as we prepare for back to school... whatever it may look like. https://challengingbehavior.cbcs.usf.edu/docs/My-teacher-wants-to-know.pdf
