NEFI testified before the U.S. Department of the Treasury and IRS on the proposed rule implementing the federal Clean Fuel Production Credit, often simply referred to as the "45Z credit. During its testimony, NEFI applauded the administration for its unprecedented support of biofuels and its efforts to ensure that heating fuels are fully eligible for the credit.

Historic news for America's heating oil industry. Today — fittingly, on Earth Day — ASTM International has approved a revised specification, ASTM D396-26a, that for the first time covers biodiesel blends up to 50% (B50) in heating oil. For retail fuel dealers, this is a transformational development. It provides the technical foundation needed to confidently deliver higher blends of cleaner-burning renewable fuel to American homes and businesses, with full equipment compatibility and consumer confidence. NEFI commends the extraordinary work of Clean Fuels Alliance America, the National Oilheat Research Alliance, and equipment manufacturers, including R.W. FEDERAL HOS WAIVER FOR HEATING FUELS EXTENDED TO MARCH 14 - The FMCSA has extended its Emergency Declaration providing hours-of-service relief for motor carriers and drivers transporting heating fuel (including heating oil, propane, and natural gas) through March 14, 2026. NEFI formally requested this extension, citing the recent storm that delivered historic snowfall to parts of the Northeast - more than three feet in some areas - making the distribution and delivery of fuels challenging up and down the supply chain. The extension covers CT, DE, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, VT, VA, and WV. Drivers should keep copies of all applicable federal and state waivers in their vehicles. 🚨U.S. House Passes Two NEFI-Backed Energy Choice Bills 🚨
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two major energy bills supported by NEFI that strengthen consumer choice, protect fuel diversity, and push back against costly one-size-fits-all electrification policies:
✅ H.R. 4626, which reforms federal appliance standards to make it harder for regulations to eliminate proven heating technologies.
✅ H.R. 4758, which repeals federal programs that subsidize residential electrification and distort the home energy market.
Both measures now move on to the Senate for consideration. The Energy Choice Act is also gaining momentum but still awaits a House floor vote. NEFI and its coalition partners are actively working to build bipartisan support and advance these priorities!
