On June 11th, The Willow Lions learned how the blind and visually impaired in our community are assisted with educational and practical services from the Alaska Center for the Blind. Jackie Olson, the Mat-Su representative for the Center demonstrated technological equipment, as well as answered questions about the Center’s services. The Willow Lions enjoyed walking in the warm sun while cleaning up trash along the Parks Hwy. Lots of hands make for light work while sharing time with a great bunch of people! If this is a project you would be happy to join in on, we would love to share our next Environment project with you!

The Willow Lions assisted CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) with their Exhibition Event and demonstrated Willow Lions’ ambulatory equipment from their Loan closet, as well as how our Vision and Hearing screening equipment functions. We met and talked to many wonderful
community members and shared Lion’s with participants and Providers alike! Want to know more about us? We meet every second Thursday of the month at the Willow Library Conference room at 7 PM. We also meet for a pot luck the fourth Thursday of the month at 5 PM at the same location. Come and join us!

On Thursday, May 14th, the Willow Lions enjoyed watching our sponsored Houston Baseball team who played a game with the Kenai team. We also enjoyed the camaraderie with members.

On May 9th, the Willow Lions volunteered to help serve the 100 and 60 mile bike participants in the American Lung Association’s “Clean Air” event, held in Talketna. We had a great time cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for the bikers and met folk from all over the US! Come on and join in the fun, all who love to serve!

The Willow Lions demonstrated Vision and Hearing Screening at the Health Fair held at the Wasilla Senior Center on Saturday, May 2nd.

These are photos of the Earth Day cars from recycling material. The car that traveled the farthest was 311”. They made some good looking cars this year. The kids had a great time.

Willow Lions concluded the Winter Trails Challenge today (March 15th) with awards to those who braved the cold and snow over the last four months. A proposal to expand the Winter Trails Challenge to included a Poker Run addition was made for next year’s event. Congrats to all who stepped up to this year’s Challenge and had fun doing it!
