Today, we honor the brave men and women serving far from home and recognize the families who carry on while their loved ones are deployed.
Behind every deployment are sacrifices we may never see—missed birthdays, holidays, family milestones, and everyday moments together. Their courage, dedication, and resilience remind us that service is a sacrifice shared by the entire family.
💡 DID YOU KNOW?
Day of the Deployed started in 2006 in North Dakota after a proclamation by Governor John Hoeven, championed by Shelle Michaels Aberle to honor her cousin, Lt. Col. David Hosna (whose birthday was October 26).
As members of the American Legion Auxiliary, we stand with our deployed service members and their families, reminding them that their sacrifices are appreciated and they are never forgotten.

October 26, National Day of the Deployed: A day to honor service members who have been deployed, who currently are serving overseas, and those who will be deployed in service to our country. It is a day to acknowledge the immense sacrifices they and their families make to protect our freedoms.

What If Every Member Recruited ONE?

On Membership Monday, Monique T Connor shared a simple yet bold idea: the power of each person recruiting just one new member. This concept is completely attainable and has sparked the inspiration for this week's Share & Serve.

What Happens If Every Member Recruits Just ONE New Member?

• Our Units would grow overnight. Our Departments would surge forward. Our mission impact would multiply in every community we serve.

• One member recruiting one new member isn’t just a dream — it’s a strategy that works. And it starts with each of us choosing to reach out.

Ways to Make Recruitment Easier

Recruitment doesn’t have to be intimidating. Here are some approaches that truly make a difference:

• Share your story. People connect with authenticity — your “why” matters.

• Invite personally. A direct invitation is often the spark someone needs.

• Bring someone along. Let them experience a meeting, project, or event.

• Use everyday conversations. Opportunities appear in the most ordinary moments.

• Lead with the mission. Many people want to serve veterans and military families — they just need to know how.

The Real Challenge

Recruitment takes courage. It means stepping forward, opening conversations, and sometimes hearing “no.” But every “yes” strengthens our Department, our Units, and our national organization. Growth happens because members choose to act — even when it feels uncomfortable.

Today our Unit went to Hassayampa Elementary School and Vulture Peak Middle School. We raised funds through 50/50 raffles in the month of September to buy first aid kits and other supplies for each classroom.
Thank you to everyone that purchased 50/50 raffle tickets. Both schools were very delighted to receive the much needed supplies.
