DID YOU KNOW? Yesterday was the anniversary of a Synod resolution on October 10, 1857, that provided "for the establishment of a college" and a fund for that purpose. In 1859, a Synod committee meeting at the C**n Prairie Church discussed LaCrosse, Decorah, and Janesville as possible locations for that "Norwegian university." Instruction in Decorah, as the land was cleared and the buildings were constructed, began on Sept. 1, 1861. This photo is often associated with the Synod meeting when this decision was made; however, that would be incorrect! Although this is a photo of a Synod meeting at the C**n Prairie Church, it was taken in 1898, long after Luther College started. Pastor Halvorsen came here in 1872, and he is in the photo. Can you find him?
