The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association brings together Iowa ethanol and biodiesel producers to foster the development and growth of the state’s renewable fuels industry through education, promotion and infrastructure development.

Some careers begin with a job. Others begin with a belief.

Elite Octane CEO Nick Bowdish first invested in ethanol as a teenager, using $5,000 he earned mowing lawns to buy shares in a new ethanol plant in his hometown. Today, he leads three ethanol facilities across Iowa and Nebraska, including Elite Octane in Atlantic and serves as IRFA's Board President.

His story is a reminder that renewable fuels are not just producing cleaner, homegrown energy. They are creating opportunities for the next generation of rural leaders and innovators.

Today, in a speech on the Senate floor, Senator Chuck Grassley highlighted the importance of permanent, nationwide access to E15.

Grassley emphasized that year-round E15 would help lower fuel costs for consumers, expand markets for Iowa-grown corn, and strengthen the state's agricultural economy. He urged Congress to pass E15 into law and provide long-term certainty for farmers, fuel retailers, and drivers.

Secretary Brooke Rollins reaffirmed President Trump’s “full and unequivocal support” for year-round E15, noting it could help lower fuel costs and strengthen rural America.

When asked by U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley if E15 would provide consumers with a more affordable option at the pump, Rollins responded: “Yes, it will.”

Meet the Staff!

This summer, IRFA is excited to welcome Erin Kinney to the IRFA team as our Summer Intern.

Originally from Winterset, Iowa, Erin is currently a student at Southwestern Community College studying Accounting and Agricultural Business, with plans to transfer to Iowa State University. Passionate about agriculture and community involvement, Erin has been active in FFA, Ag Club, and Professional Agriculture Students (PAS) while also pursuing her creative interests through Pivot Design, her small business specializing in branding, logo design, custom apparel, and photography.

As IRFA's Summer Intern, Erin supports Drive Clean Iowa's social media efforts by creating daily content, planning giveaways, designing marketing materials, and coordinating student outreach events. She also assists with daily operations and supports team members across a variety of projects.

"Working at IRFA has given me valuable opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Through Drive Clean Iowa, I enjoy helping educate younger drivers about the benefits of renewable fuels like Unleaded 88 and promoting clear, accurate information that helps consumers make informed choices."

IRFA and Iowa Corn are recognizing Iowa’s congressional delegation for their leadership in advancing year-round E15 in the U.S. House and supporting Iowa agriculture, renewable fuels, and consumers.

A full-page ad in the June 2 edition of the Des Moines Register highlights and thanks Representatives Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn for their efforts to expand year-round access to E15 ethanol strengthening demand for Iowa corn supporting rural jobs and expanding affordable American made fuel options for consumers.

The study is clear: as ethanol demand grew, corn prices rose and farmland values in the Midwest increased significantly. Ethanol continues to be a driver of rural prosperity, which is why year-round E15 and having every tool available to open new ultra-low carbon ethanol markets matters.
