Farmers, the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative at Iowa State University conducted late spring nitrate testing in fields across the state. The data shows residual nitrate levels in fields that have not received fertilizer inputs are relatively high and extremely variable from field to field. Last month, Iowa corn farmer Stan Nelson and Iowa Corn Director of Industrial Innovation Alex Buck traveled to Washington, D.C., for the Plant Based Products Council Fly-In. 🌽🏛️

During their visit, they met with legislative staff to advocate for key Farm Bill language included in the Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act and the Ag BIO Act. They also encouraged congressional offices to support the Plant Based Products Council and National Corn Growers Association’s tax incentive legislation introduced in March, the Renewable Materials Production and Investment Tax Credit. The proposal is designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing and make it easier to build competitive facilities in the U.S. using agricultural feedstocks like corn.
