Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig encourages Iowa farmers to plant cover crops this fall to improve water quality and soil health. Through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship's annual Crop Insurance Discount Program, farmers who plant eligible cover crops this fall may receive a $5 per acre discount on their 2027 crop insurance premiums. President Donald Trump announced on Monday night that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will create the Harvest Fuel Relief program. The $8 billion program will be designed to provide farmers with assistance to help mitigate the high cost of inputs, including diesel fuel. Over the past month, Iowa Corn has been on the move, hosting and joining trade missions to build relationships, strengthen markets and share Iowa and corn’s story worldwide. 🌍🌽

Jolene Riessen, Iowa corn farmer and member from Ida County, traveled to Japan for The U.S. Meat Export Federation’s Heartland Trade Mission. While in Japan, Jolene was able to learn about what the Japan markets were doing and understand where the markets may go, visit with Culinary School Ikebukuro students about corn-fed red meats, tour a beef tongue plant in Sendai, Wagyu auction and Fabrication plant in Tokyo.

Ross Cady, Iowa Corn Manager of Market Development, traveled to Poland to explore current ethanol policy, implementation, consumption and capacity in the country. Conversations focused on potential policy changes in the EU and identifying concrete actions to take on common issues of interest to achieve a more favorable outcome for first generation ethanol, including changes to the crop cap and migration to higher blends.

Dr. Alex Buck, Iowa Corn Director of Industrial Innovation, visited India with the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council to participate as a panelist and roundtable moderator at the U.S.-India Biofuels Summit. The Summit brought together stakeholders from the U.S. and India to learn from and share experiences expanding the use of ethanol for marine and aviation fuel, clean cooking, and biomaterials. After the summit, Dr. Buck, met with companies across India by meeting Triveni (an engineering company and ethanol producer), Jubilant (an ethanol and biochemical producer) and Praj (a global ethanol and SAF technology provider developing even more novel ethanol-based technologies).

Ryan Steffensen, Iowa Corn Promotion Board District 4 Director, hosted a Japan Grain and Feed Buyers Trade Team from Mitsubishi Co LTD. The group discussed grain quality, storage, moisture, pricing and overall farming practices.

Tim Couser, Iowa Corn member and Story County farmer, welcomed another Japanese feed buyer trade team. The group discussed corn quality, what farming looks like in Iowa, and other by-products of corn. They also visited the Iowa State KENT feed mill and Key Cooperative to learn more about corn after it is harvested.

Iowa Corn along with Grant Menke from Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship hosted the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to discuss what Iowa farmers are seeing with this season, farmer concerns and what effects they are seeing from fuel, fertilizer & weather challenges.

Devin Lansing from Linn County in District 6 is our today! 🌽

Devin has been farming for four years, raising corn and soybeans in Linn Count. He also works part time for an independent custom application company, which has given him another perspective on agriculture and the many people who help make our industry successful.

Devin sees a lot of value in being an Iowa Corn Growers Association member. "As farmers, we need to support an organization that is continually working to find new markets for our corn and one that brings the voice of Iowa corn farmers to the table at both the local and national levels. Iowa Corn plays an important role in making sure our interests are represented."

He also believes it is important for young farmers to get involved in organizations like Iowa Corn. "There are a lot of great farmers already involved with Iowa Corn, and it has been rewarding to get to know them and learn from their experiences. They have always been willing to share their knowledge and help younger farmers better understand the agriculture industry."

"As young farmers, we need to support Iowa Corn and the work they do on our behalf. By getting involved today, we can help ensure that Iowa corn farmers continue to have a strong voice and that Iowa Corn can continue to advocate for our industry in the future."

Next Saturday, Oct. 24, Iowa Corn will be at the Iowa Capitol Complex in Des Moines for a day celebrating Iowa agriculture, history and all the things that make our state worth bragging about.

We’ll be there from 1 p.m. to dusk. Stop by, say hello and enjoy a little Iowa harvest season with us!

Iowa Corn is proud to announce the students selected to participate in the 2026-2027 school year’s Collegiate Advisory Team (CAT) program, which focuses on increasing college students’ understanding of the corn industry. During the one-year program, students will visit the Capitol, tour industry leaders’ farms and expand their network and knowledge outside of the classroom. 🌽 Learn more at the link below ⬇️

On World Food Day, we’re celebrating the farmers who help keep food on tables here in Iowa and around the world. 🍽️🌍

Corn plays a role in more of our food system than you might think. 🌽 From feeding livestock and producing ethanol to food ingredients and exports that reach markets around the globe. 🐷🥩⛽ Every bushel starts with a farmer putting in the work to grow a crop, care for the land and provide for communities near and far.

Today, we’re saying thank you to the farmers who help make our food possible.

The days are getting longer, the combines are moving and harvest is officially underway. 🌽🚜

Harvest brings long hours, tight schedules and plenty of work to get done. In the middle of it all, remember to make time for yourself, too. Take a minute to check in with yourself, reach out to a neighbor or give a friend a call. A quick conversation can go a long way during a busy season.

Take care of the crop, take care of each other and, most importantly, take care of yourself. Here’s to a safe harvest.
