Hi All. Last week NWAPL was contacted regarding a cat (now known as CARROT) that showed up at a feeding station in Providence, RI that was exhibiting upper respiratory symptoms and needed medical care. NWAPL saw his condition and agreed we had to get this cat help as quick as possible. With the help of a couple kind cat lovers, we were able to get him indoors to safety. On Thursday he went to the vet for an exam. We learned he was roughly 8-10 years old, neutered, microchipped (not registered), fiv-/feluk- (phewph!) and suffering from an awful upper respiratory infection causing him respiratory distress. To rule out pneumonia, we agreed to some x-rays. While his lungs didn’t appear to be too bad, we incidentally learned he had multiple BB gun pellets lodged in two of his legs. We also learned his abdomen was filled with air, likely from his respiratory issue. We did bloodwork, gave sub-q fluids for hydration and returned “home” with meds for his infection, breathing and appetite. A few folks who fell in love with Carrot quickly helped us raise some money for his care. We were able to raise about $2,500 which was extraordinary!! We were blown away by everyone’s interest in saving Carrot and their generousity. It surely eased the burden of taking on Carrot’s care while we impatiently waited for him to improve.
Unfortunately, after a few days on antibiotics, his condition was not improving and we rushed him to the Emergency Room at Bay State Veterinary Hospital today. He is in critical care tonight and we need your help! He is on oxygen, receiving all the care and support he can possibly get to try to turn this ship around. Our deposit was $3,000 and we don’t know how far that will get us. Carrot did not choose this life. We believe CARROT deserves a chance at a better life, filled with kindness, warmth, a full belly and unconditional love. We are going to try to give it to him. If you believe in what we do, we encourage you to donate and send us your healing thoughts to help Carrot pull through this.
Donations can be made directly through Venmo -NWAPL or you can call Bay State Veterinary Hospital at (508) 379-1233 and make a payment towards Carrot’s care under Northwest Animal Protection League.
It may be a long road ahead but we are willing to walk beside you Carrot! We love you. Let’s rally!!!
PS. Updates will be provided as we have them. Xoxo
