We have been busy bees over here at North Dearborn Pantry this summer. Here's why:

Over the past several years, the number of neighbors walking through our doors has been quietly, steadily climbing. It's not a spike. It's not a crisis moment we can point to. It's a slow, consistent rise that tells us something important about our community:
More people need help than ever before. And more people are brave enough to ask for it.

In May of this year alone, we served 1,105 people — one of the highest months in our entire history.

We are not alarmed. We are not overwhelmed. We are paying attention — and we are showing up.

But here's the honest truth: a growing need requires a growing response. We are 100% community-funded. It is entirely, completely you.

61% of our patrons have recently skipped meals, reduced portions, or worried about running out of food. Nearly 70% rely on us for at least 25% of their groceries. These are your neighbors. People you pass at the gas station, the school pickup line, the hardware store.

They are counting on this pantry. This pantry is counting on you.

Something is shifting in June. We feel it, and we want to say thank you!

Donations are up. The generosity coming through our doors — and into our accounts — has already made June feel different than the months before it.
We don't take that lightly.

Every time someone drops off an extra bag at the back dock, buys a ticket to support one of our events, or quietly gives online without anyone watching — it lands. It matters. We see it in the shelves. We feel it in the shifts.

So from the bottom of our hearts — thank you.

You may have noticed we were a little quiet on here in May.
Here's what we were doing instead. 👇

In May alone, the North Dearborn Pantry served 1,105 of your neighbors — one of the top three highest months in our entire history!

We distributed more pounds of food than almost any month we have ever recorded. Our volunteers showed up, stocked the shelves, ran the shifts, and took care of our community without missing a beat.

We didn't post about it. We were too busy doing it.

But here's why we're telling you now — because behind that number is a truth that doesn't get easier to say: the need in North Dearborn County is growing. More families. More neighbors. More people who need a hand and have found one here.

And we're showing up for every single one of them.

We are 100% volunteer-run and community-funded. Every pound of food we distributed in May, every family we welcomed, every child who went home with a bag of groceries — that happened because of people like you.

Garage sale season is upon us, and we just want to send a little love note to our community. 💚

We love you, North Dearborn Community; however:

We accept food, clothing, personal care items, and household basics.

We do not accept your elliptical. Or your sectional. Or Dave's old TV that "works great, just has a line across the middle." 😂

We love you, and we will happily take your food. Just not your couch.

What's even better than a few extra hands to help you do the laundry?

A few extra hands to help you get there!

Food gets a lot of attention at a food pantry. Rightfully so. But our 2026 Patron Survey told us something we already knew in our hearts — the little things matter just as much.

Showing up to a job interview smelling clean. Sending your kids to summer camp with fresh laundry. Taking a shower after a long, hard day and feeling like a human being again.

These things require resources that don't grow on trees and aren't always easily accessible. They require products that are expensive, rarely donated, and almost never covered by food assistance programs.

Right now, we are running critically low on:

🧴 Shampoo & conditioner
🚿 Body wash & soap
👃 Deodorant
🫧 Laundry detergent

If you're heading to the store this week, grab one extra. Drop it by during our open hours and know that it will go directly to a neighbor who needs it.

🌞 School's out for the summer! 🎵

For some kids, that also means meals are out, too.

When the bell rings for the last time in May, a lot of families in our community quietly start worrying about how they're going to feed their kids through the summer. No school lunch. No breakfast program. Just a long stretch of weeks with a lot of hungry little bellies.

That's where we come in.

This summer, the North Dearborn Pantry will be packing weekly Summer Kids Packs — bags loaded with kid-friendly food to help bridge the gap for local families while school is out.

This is happening because of YOU. Every donation, every dollar, every volunteer hour goes toward making sure no child in North Dearborn County goes without this summer.

Every so often, we ask the people we serve how we're doing. This spring, they told us.

💬 "You guys are life savers for our family."
💬 "I have NEVER been made to feel less than."
💬 "I'm overwhelmed to tears with the quality and amount of food given."

We don't share these to pat ourselves on the back. We share them because behind every one of those words is a real neighbor — someone in our community who needed help and found it here.

Here's what our 2026 Patron Survey told us:
📊 45% of our patrons would face severe hardship without the North Dearborn Pantry
📊 61% have recently skipped meals, reduced portions, or worried about running out of food
📊 Nearly 70% rely on us for at least 25% of their groceries
📊 100% reported a positive overall experience
📊 95% feel welcome and respected every time they walk through our door

That last one? That one matters most to us. Food is why we exist. But dignity is how we do it.
