Friends of Chimbote The city of Chimbote was once the most important fishing center of Peru with a thriving economy and plethora of jobs for anyone willing to work.

Friends of Chimbote and ACAF work in partnership with families and communities, walking alongside them through numerous programs that build safe homes and create opportunities that support education, dignity, and lasting change together. Friends of Chimbote was formed in 1998 as Los Amigos del Padre Juan (Spanish for Friends of Father Jack) and, in 2002, received 501c3 status allowing donations to

be tax-deductible. Today, after decades of uncensored fishing and economic calamities, thousands of men and women who worked in the fishing industry have been exiled to the outskirts of an overburdened city where they live in woven reed (estera) shacks with no means to support their families.

Through the Fish and Loaves Program, Friends of Chimbote, ACAF, and mission teams provide fish and bread to families facing food insecurity. For many families, this assistance helps put nutritious food on the table and eases the burden of daily life. HISTORIC FIRST-EVER MASS BRINGS HOPE TO UPPER CAMBIO
Despite some unexpected flight delays, Father Riley Durkin and the mission team from St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Lisbon, ND, safely arrived in Chimbote and through it all, they remained flexible and joyful!
They wasted no time getting started, immediately hitting the ground running. On their very first day, the team had the privilege of meeting the families they would be building for and joined in a Fish-n-Loaves distribution that provided nourishment to more than 250 families.
To cap off an incredible first day, Father Riley celebrated the first-ever Mass in Upper Cambio Puente at the Learning Center. The center was filled to capacity with grateful neighbors who were overjoyed to be able to attend Mass so close to their homes. It was a beautiful and faith-filled evening that marked a special moment for the community.

SINCERE GRATITUDE ACROSS CHIMBOTE
Throughout the communities of Cambio Puente, Las Lomas, and Pampadura, hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible mission team from Saint Charles Borromeo Oakes , North Dakota, led by Father Tim Schroeder and Monica Heimbuch, who have just completed a week packed with service, love, and transformation.
In each of these communities, families witnessed acts of generosity that will leave a lasting impact for years to come. Through the gift of safe water, fresh bread, nourishing fish, homes, and even the life-changing gift of light, the team brought hope and opportunity to families who often face daily challenges and uncertainty.
But perhaps the greatest gift they shared was the gift of their presence. They listened, encouraged, prayed, worked side by side with families, and built relationships that transcended language and distance. What began as strangers arriving from North Dakota quickly became something much more: FAMILY!
Thanks to the St Charles Borromeo team for the hope you shared, the friendships you formed, and the lives you touched. The water will continue to flow, the lights will continue to shine, and the memories created this week will continue to inspire us all long after your journey home. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! FATHER TIM SCHROEDER

Today is a day of great joy and celebration in Chimbote, Peru, as we honored Father Tim Schroeder from Saint Charles Borromeo Oakes, ND on the 38th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

What a special way to celebrate this milestone as he is on the ground in Chimbote, Peru this week with a mission team from St. Charles Borromeo.

The day began with a beautiful Mass celebrated with Father Jos茅, the ACAF staff, members of the community, and the St. Charles Borromeo Mission Team. Together, they gathered in gratitude for Father Tim's years of faithful service and his unwavering commitment to sharing God's love with others.

Father Tim, thank you for your servant's heart, your boundless enthusiasm for life, and your dedication to serving those most in need. Your example has inspired countless lives, and your ministry has brought hope, faith, and compassion to so many. You have definitely left your thumbprint on many hearts in Peru!

A NIGHT OF CELEBRATION, A LIFETIME OF CONNECTION
As the Riverstone Church Young Adult Mission Team begins to wrap up their week of service in Chimbote, they paused for a special evening of celebration and connection at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.
This night was about so much more than the work they came to do鈥t was about the relationships that have been built through years of serving together. Many team members were reunited with families whose homes they helped build on previous mission trips. For some, this was their third consecutive year returning to serve alongside FoC/ACAF, and the reunions were filled with laughter, tears, warm embraces, and heartfelt conversations.
The evening came alive with a beautiful cultural dance performance, live music, delicious Peruvian cuisine, and wonderful desserts featuring both the Peruvian and American flags鈥攁 symbol of the friendship, partnership, and shared mission that unite us as one family in Christ.
Mission trips are never just about building homes. They are about building relationships that transcend borders, languages, and cultures. Over time, these families become part of our own story, etched into our hearts forever. PRAYING AS ONE, SERVING AS ONE
The Riverstone Church Mission Team from Bismarck, North Dakota has arrived in Chimbote! These 28 young adults are beginning a powerful week of serving the poor, loving families, and walking alongside the communities of Chimbote and the surrounding areas.
Their mission week began with a beautiful time of worship and devotion shared together with the ACAF staff in the San Mateo courtyard. A powerful reminder that even though we come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, we are united as one family in Christ with one purpose: to serve God by serving others.
As the Riverstone Team and ACAF staff work side by side, we pray God moves through every conversation, every relationship, and every act of compassion.
