St. Louis Civilians hosted a hilariously fun evening of Sumo Wrestling! Our own Rob (red) and Deb Wagnon (blue) competed. Both had tough draws. Deb was up against a 20-something-year-old fit-as-a-fiddle SLU student and Rob's opponent stood about 6'4 and weighed in around 250 (totally a guess, but the guy was huge!) Great sports, great company, and great fun! Next event is February 27. Start working out and watching sumo YouTubes now to represent Webster Groves and District 6060! Oh, and start packin' on the pounds!

Kudos to the Webster Groves Police Officers Association, which has presented proceeds of $8,800 from their recent Trivia Night to the Rotary Club of Webster Groves. Special thanks to President Andrew Travagliante and all Webster Groves officers who made this donation possible. This generous allows us to award additional scholarships to deserving graduating seniors.

Congratulations to the six students who received $2,000 scholarships this year (in alphabetical order): Kiran Bergfeld, Cilian Clark, Gabrielle Gastreich, Meghan O'Neill, Ariana Peper, and Adelaide White.

There were so many more worthy individuals. We appreciate all who applied. The criteria were weighted heavily toward community service, community involvement, and need.

Check it out! This was one of the RYLA students our club sponsored last year! He's an amazing example of what servant leadership is supposed to be. Keep on keeping on, Miles!

“When it comes to picking up trash, you just never know what you’re going to find, and it’s very peaceful, and every time it’s just like a new adventure,” Miles told First Alert 4.

Dr. Tim Keane, President of Webster University, visited on March 27, 2026, and delivered a remarkably interesting and informative talk about the status of Webster University.

Attendance was the largest during the 2025-26 Rotary year. A sizable number of members asked a wide range of questions, and some stayed after the meeting adjourned to speak with Dr. Keane personally, indicative of their interest in the University and his comments.

Dr. Keane spoke about the University's transformation, having finished the fiscal year with a positive cash flow for the first time in a decade. He stressed that the institution “continues to empower students by removing barriers through value-driven pricing and deploying innovative methods designed to meet students where they are today.”

Founded in 1915, Webster University is an independent nonprofit university with campus locations in North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as a robust online learning environment. The University is committed to engaged learning experiences and empowering our students to become catalysts for change.

On March 14, we hosted 75 attendees at our third annual Wine Tasting - another successful and tasty event! Honoring the 250th Anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, we featured all US wines. Guillo Rodriguez and Gail Appleson personally introduced each wine to our guests, greatly enhancing their enjoyment. The net proceeds of about $1,600 will benefit several of the Rotary Club’s local projects, including scholarships for high school seniors. Attendees also graciously donated to Metro St. Louis Rotary InterCity Fellowship's project to pay for eye surgeries in third-world nations.
