Webster Groves Historical Society

Webster Groves Historical Society The Webster Groves Historical Society was founded in 1965 to preserve the history of our community.

The Hawken House was built by Christopher Miller Hawken for his wife, Mary Ann Kinkead Eades. This elegant Federal/Greek Revival brick farmhouse originally stood on Big Bend Boulevard just west of Grant Road. It was moved to Southwest Park in 1970 in order to preserve the structure; it is now maintained and operated as a history museum by the Webster Groves Historical Society. Guided tours are con

ducted by trained docents, by appointment.

$5.00 per Adult
FREE for children under 12

*Special Group Tours are Available*

The Hearth Room was built in 1989 behind the Hawken House to create a meeting place with nineteenth century understated elegance. The Hearth Room may be rented seven days a week, with both day and evening times available. The handicap-accessible dining room accommodates up to 100 guests; the adjacent patio and grounds are also available for tented events. Clients may engage their own caterers, entertainers, and other vendors at no additional charge.

MAY 7th IS GIVE STL DAY!
I’m reaching out to invite you to be part of something meaningful—preserving a historic property that tells an important story in our community.

The Historic Hawken House Museum is more than just a building—it’s a living connection to our past. From its architecture to the stories held within its walls, it reflects the people, culture, and moments that shaped who we are today. But like many historic places, it needs care and support to remain standing for future generations.

We are currently working to install a new roof, gutters, window ledges, and clean up all of the gardens and we cannot do it without help from people who value history and community.

Your gift will support the efforts of this mostly volunteer organization and we are grateful for your donation and support.

Thank you for helping keep history alive!

When the Webster Groves Historical Society was incorporated on March 31, 1965 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, its initial goal was to save the 1867 home of Christopher and Mary Ann Eades Hawken, which was facing demolition. Today, the beautifully restored Hawken...
