A little extra support can make a difference in everyday life.

For older adults, getting to medical appointments, keeping up with utility bills, making a needed home repair, or getting help at home can make it easier to continue living independently.

Prop S will support community organizations that provide services intended to help St. Louis County seniors remain safely in their homes.

One unexpected expense can make a big difference for a senior living on limited income.

Many St. Louis County seniors have just enough income to cover their regular expenses, but a major home repair, high utility bill, or unexpected emergency can put their ability to remain at home at risk.

Prop S would create a Senior Citizen’s Services Fund to provide additional support for seniors and their families.

📚Monthly Book Group (In-Person)

Join us November 13 to discuss The Tumbling Turner Sisters by Juliette Fay.

In 1919, the four Turner sisters and their parents are barely scraping along. Their father is a low-paid boot stitcher in Johnson City, NY, and the Turners are always one paycheck away from eviction. When their father’s hand is crushed and he’s forced to quit, their domineering mother decides that the vaudeville stage is their best --- and only --- chance for salvation.

Equal parts heartwarming, charming and reflective, THE TUMBLING TURNER SISTERS is the story of the sacrifices we make in the name of family, and how the most unlikely choice can ultimately be the one to lead us toward our truest selves.

Facilitated by Jesse Tisdale of the Oak Bend Branch, Saint Louis County Library.

Books are selected monthly by library staff and can be checked out and picked up at the Oak Bend Branch (842 S. Holmes Ave., 63122). A limited number of books can also be borrowed from the Shepherd's Center office.

How will Prop S be funded and managed?

Prop S would be funded through a 5-cent property tax levy for every $100 of assessed property value.

For homeowners, that amounts to about $9.50 per year for every $100,000 of appraised home value. For example, a home appraised at $200,000 would cost about $19 per year.

The fund would be managed by an independent seven-member board that oversees the money and its use to help older adults. St. Louis County would also audit the fund every year. No partisan politics. Just transparency and accountability.
